To all whom llt may concern:

Be it known that I, SOPHIA M. BEHRENS, a citizen of the United States, and residing at I-Iartsdale, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements-in Antislipping Boots for Horses, of whichthe following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to devices for preventing horses from slipping on frozen or icy roads or pavements, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which will also serve as a cushion to protect the bottom of the foot and prevent injury thereof.

The invention is designed in the form of a basket, and for use as an over-shoe or boot into which a horses foot may be insert-ed, and which may be securely attached to, or secured to, the foot.

The said device is woven or braided from ropes, cords or the like of sea-grass or other suitable fibrous material, and in such manner that the top portion thereof is of more or less open work, and flexible and expansible while the bottom thereof is formed into a closely woven cushion of radial and concentric parts, said device serving to prevent a horse from slipping, while also serving to cushion the bottom of the foot and to protect the same from injury.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved anti-slip and cushion device for horses:- Fig. 2, a front view, and, Fig. 3, a back vie-w thereof.

In the practice of my invention I provide a device of the class specied comprising a body portion a and bottom b, the body portion being preferably open at the back as shown at c.

The device is composed of ropes or cords of fibrous material interwoven to form a compact bottom consisting of interlooped concentric and radial strands as clearly shown, and the top or body portion thereof is formed by horizontal and vertically arranged strands of the rope lor cord, and is which .is passed a strap c the ends of which are preferably connectedk at the back by means of'a'buckle f, but'the 'ends of said l strap maybe connected at any point and in any manner.`

In the use of this device it is applied to the foot of the horse, or the foot of the horse is inserted thereinto, and the strap c is drawn tightly around the top portion of the hoofand secured so as to rmly hold the devicey on the foot, and the loosely woven top portion permits of the expansion and contraction thereof and facilitates the operation of placing the device on the foot and removing it therefrom.

The back opening c in the top portion of the boot is not absolutely necessary and may or may not be employed.
