To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS HUMPHREY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brookville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelop Moistening and -Sealing Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an envelop moistening and sealing device, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device that can be advantageously used for moistening the gummed flap of an envelop and sealing the same, thereby obviating the necessity of using saliva for moistening purposes.

A further object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable device of the above type that can be economically and expeditiously used for the purposes for which it is intended.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in. a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the envelop moistening and sealing device, and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same.

A device in accordance with this invention comprises a rectangular base block 1 and said block, adjacent to one end thereof and at one side is provided with an open rectangular recess 2 to accommodate a receptacle 3 that serves as a liquid reservoir adapted to contain water or mucilage. Mounted upon the forward end of the base block 1 is a combined guide and bearing made of a single piece of metal that is doubled upon itself to provide curved guides 4: and 5. The doubled edge of the guide is secured to the base block 1 by screws 6 or other fastening means, and the guide 4:, is

slitted to provide a curved tongue 7 that extends into the receptacle 8. The guide 5 is cut away to provide an opening 8 and a bearing 9. Arranged in the receptacle 3 is an angle bearing 10 that confronts the bearing 9 of the guide 5. Mounted upon the base block 1, intermedi- I ate the ends thereof, is a roll guide 12 made of a single piece of material doubled upon itself and curved for guiding an envelop to the rear end of the base block 1. The roll guide is secured to the edge of the block 1 by screws 13 or other fastening means.

Mounted upon the rear end of the base block 1 is a wire frame M for revolubly supporting the spindles 15 of sealing rolls 16 and 17. The rolls 16 and 17 are adjacent to the open end of the guide 12 to receive an envelop from said guide. The wire frame 14. is shaped to provide bearings for the rolls 16 and 17, and as the envelop passes between said rolls, the moistened gummed flap thereof is sealed.

An envelop is inserted between guides 4 and 5 with the gummed flap thereof positioned so that said flap will pass under the moistening roller 11, while the body of the envelop passes over the moistening roller. As the envelop is shifted onto the guide 12, the moistened and gummed flap is closed and when said envelop passes between the rolls l6 and 17 the flap is sealed.

It is thought that the operation and utility of the device will be apparent without further description, and I would have it understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

hat I claim is An envelop moistening and sealing device comprising a base block, a liquid receptacle detachably mounted in the forward end of said base block, a guide mounted upon the forward end of said block, and cut away to provide a bearing", a bearing mounted in said receptacle, a moistening roller revolubly supported by said bearings, a roll guide mounted upon said base block and adapted to close the flap of an envelop, and revoluble sealing rolls at the'rear end of said block and adapted to receive an envelop from said roll guide.
