FIG. 2
INVENTOR s E s s E N H w KARL BOSTEL, or monnssniv, rmmsnvnmn.
DKY-CLE'ANING DEVICE.
Specificationot Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5,' 1912.
Application filed Jul as, 1912'. Serial no. 712,0e1.
To all whom it may-concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL Ros'rEL, a-citizen of the United States of America, residing at Monessen, in. the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dry-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. 1
This invention relates to a dry cleaning device, and the primary object of my invention is toprovide a device embodyln a yieldable absorbent cleansing head to which gasolene or a suitable detergent. can be fed for cleaning purposes.
Another object of this invention is to provide a dry cleaning device having adetachable cleansing body that can be renewed when worn'or soiled or a different type of piece of material tov hereinafter specifically described and then til 1 the vent 6.
claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawings, whereinz-- I v Figure 1 is a. side elevation of the cleaning device, partly broken away and partly in section, Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, Fig. 3' is' a perspective view of a discharge head forming part of the device, and Fig. 4 1s a perspective view of a detached spacing plate.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a T having one end thereof provided with a handle 2 and the opposite end thereof with a pet cock 3. The top of the T supports, a reservoir 4 having a detachable screw cap 5. The
cap 5 has a vent opening 6 that can be closed by a pivoted shutter 7, carried. by the cap 5' y and limited in its movement by stops orpins 8. The reservoir is preferably made of a transparent material, as glass and'gasolene or a liquid detergent can beplaced in the reservoir and 'fed to thepet cock by opening The pet cock 3 has a discharge; spout 9 terminatingin a rectangular head 10 that has the vertical edges thereof slightly curved, as
outwardly extending integral screw threaded stem J 2. The cuter side of the head 10 has vertically disposed ribs 13v providing a vertical channel 14 that is in communication with the opening 11, of the head.
Arranged against the head 10, upon-the stem 12 is a spacing plate 15 that is -rectang'ularand has an opening 16 providing clearance for the stem 12. The plate 15 is made of a resilient material and is clamped against the ribs 13 by a yieldable absorbent cleaning head 17 made of a piece of absorbent material wound to provide a roll, the
cleaning head 17 having an openmg 18 providing clearance for the stem 12. The cleaning head is compressed upon the stem 12, against the spacing plate 15 by a curved clamping plate 19 that is arranged upon the threaded end of the stem 12 and-held there- 7 .on by'a nut 20 screwed upon said stem. In
pressing the clamping'plate 19 against the head 17, the head 17 is compressed to an oval form, as shown in Fig.2, the lower end of said head having a mushroom shape. a 8
By opening the vent-6 and regulating the pet cock 3 a quantity of gasolene or liquid detergent is allowed .to flow from the opening 11 into the channel 14 and onto the lower end of the'cleaning head 17 to be absorbed by said head, whereby the headcan be rubbed upon a piece of fabric to remove stains, dirt and other matter that can be removed from the fabric by the detergent that is used.
When the cleaning head is worn or soiled, it can be easily removed and a new head substituted therefor. I
It is apparent that by using the cleaning device that there is a saving of gasolene, owing tothe fact that the vvolume of g'asolene is inclosed and cannot rapidly evaporate. alsothe supply of gasolene to the cleaning head can be regulated to prevent waste.v
It is thought that the manner of using the device will be apparent without further description, and I would have it understood that the structural elementsare susceptible to such variations as fall within the scope of the appended claims. I
What I claim is:-
Y 1. A dry cleaning device comprising a pet cook, areservoir incommunication therewith, a discharge head carried by said pet cook, a stem. forming part of said discharge head, a spacing plate arranged upon said stem, and a wound cleaning head arranged upon said stem and clamped against said spacing plate. 1 v
k 2. A dry cleaning device comprising a pet cock, a reservoir in communication therewith, a discharge head carried by said pet cock and having a channel formed therein, a stem carried by said discharge head, awound yieldable cleaning head arranged upon said stem, and means for compressing and clampirig said cleaning head against said spacing p ate.
"3. Aicleaning device comprising a T, a handle carried thereby, areservoir in com- "munication-Withsaid T and having 'a vent,
a pet cock in communication with said T,
a discharge head carried by said pet cock ment with said spacing plate.
- and having a channel formed therein, a stem carrieddby said discharge head, a spacin plate arranged upon said stem, a woun yieldable and absorbent cleaning head ar- 20 ranged upon said stem and against said spacing plate and adapted to receive the contents of said reservoir through the medium of said petcock and the channel of said dis charge ing plate for compressing and retaining said cleaning head upon said stern and in engagemy signature witnesses. v KARL HOSTEL.
'In'testimony whereof I'afiix in the presence of two Witnesses:
