COMBINATION PAPER-TOWEL HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed June 7, 1912. Serial No. 702,264.
Patented Nov. 5, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE G. GLOUTMAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Leominster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination Paper-Towel Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of this invention is the provision of a rack particularly adapted for use in connection with paper towels, said rack comprising essentially a main roller supporting frame having a roller mounted thereon, said roller being adapted to carry a plurality of towels, and an auxiliary frame connected to said main frame and adapted to retain the roller in engagement therewith, said main frame being also adapted to support a plurality of unfolded towels.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above, it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are susceptible to changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment being shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of the rack constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the rack.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters designate similar parts, it will be seen that the rack is preferably formed from relatively stiff wire or the like and comprises a main frame 5 which is bent into substantially inverted U-shape and twisted to form an eye 6 for the reception of a suitable fastener whereby the rack may be hung from a support. The frame 5 is bent at its free ends to provide supporting hooks 7 and intermediate the eye 6 and the hook 7, said frame is bent laterally as indicated at 8 to form shoulders which are adapted to be engaged by the elongated horizontal brace 9 which has its ends bent about said frame. The hooks 7 are adapted to receive and support a plurality of unfolded paper towels 9 in the form of'a block, each towel being adapted to be torn from the hooks preparatory to using the same.
A cylinder 10 is provided in each end thereof with eye bolts '11 which are adapted to receive the hooks 7 of the main frame, after the towels 9. have, been mounted thereon, thus supporting the cylinder therefrom. Loosely mounted upon the cylinder 10 is a tube. 12 whichis free'to revolve upon said cylinder and which is adapted to carry thereon a number of towels in the form of a roll which may be readily withdrawn therefrom when desired for use.
An auxiliary frame 13 which is substantially U-shape in formation has its free ends bentto form pivot eyes 14 which are adapted to engage the sides of the frame 5 above the brace 9 thus limiting the downward movement of the auxiliary frame. Theframe 13 is adapted to normally assume a downwardly inclined position relative to the frame 5 and when in this position it embraces the extremities of the hooks 7 of the main frame. The auxiliary frame is maintained in this position by means of the clips 15, each of said clips having one end 16 bent about the main frame and its other end 17 bent diagonally upon itself to form a lip portion which is adapted to engage the auxiliary frame. These clips are slidably mounted upon the frames and by forcing the same downwardly it will be seen that the auxiliary frame 13 will be securely held in engagement with the hooks 7 thus preventing the accidental removal of the towels 9 or the cylinder 10. WVhen it is desired to wind a towel or towels upon the tube 12, the cylinder 10 is removed from engagement with the hooks 7 by forcing the clips 15 in an upward direction and disengaging the lip portions 17 thereof from the auxiliary frame thus permitting said frame to be swung from engagement with the hooks 7 thereby permitting the ready removal of the said cylinder. It is to be understood, of course, that either one or both forms of towels may be used upon the racks, as desired.
From the foregoing description taken in I it will be seen that the lnvention contemplates providing a towel rack which is simple in construction thus reducing the cost of manufacture of the same to a minimum and which is durable and effective 111 carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
V7 hat is claimed is l. A rack comprising a main frame of an inverted U -shape formation, the free ends of said frame being bent to provide hooks, for
connection with theaccompanying drawingv the reception of a block of paper towels, a cylinder supported by said hooks, a tube rotatably mounted upon said cylinder, and an auxiliary frame pivotally connected to said main frame and adapted to engage said hooks for retaining said block of towels thereon and preventing the removal of said cylinder.
2. A rack comprising a main frame of an inverted U-shape formation, the free ends of said frame being bent to provide hooks, for the reception of a block of paper towels, a cylinder supported by said hooks,- a tube rotatably mounted upon said cylinder, an auxiliary frame pivotally connected to said main frame and adapted to engage said hooks for retaining said block of towels thereon and preventing the removal of said cylinder, and clips slidably engaging said main and auxiliary frames for retaining the latter in engagement with said hooks.
3. A rack comprising a main frame of an inverted U-shape formation, the free ends of said frame being bent to provide hooks, for
the reception of a block of paper towels, a 1* cylinder supported by said hooks, a tube rotatably mounted upon said cylinder, an auxiliary frame pivotally connected to said main frame and adapted to engage said hooks for retaining said block of towels thereon and preventing the removal of said cylinder, clips slidably engaging said main and auxiliary frames for retaining the latter in engagement with said hooks, and a brace carried by said main frame and adapted to limit the downward movement of said auxiliary frame.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
