SMOKEBS STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' PatentedNov.5,1912.
Application filed December a, 1911. Serial No. 664,619.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. As'rRUoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Smokers Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a smokers stand of novel construction and more particularly to an improved removable lining for the ash bowl of said stand and means for securing such lining to the bowl. The construction is such that by lifting out and tilting the lining, the ashes may be readily emptied without tipping the stand, or unscrewing the bowl.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a smokers stand embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a plan drawn on a larger scale, and Fig. 3 a vertical central section through the bowl and adjoining parts.
The stand is composed essentially of a bowl 10, a stem 11, and a base 12 removably connected to each other. Within bowl 10 is removably fitted an insert or tray 13, preferably made of vitreous, ceramic or similar material. This insert is of a form to snugly fit into the bowl and is provided with a central upwardly extending projection 14. The contour of this projection corresponds substantially to the contour of the rim of the insert, so that the latter has an annular trough shape as shown in Fig. 3. Projection 14 has a squared upright bore that accommodates a, correspondingly squared removable core 15 having an enlarged foot 16 which is countersunk in the bottom of the insert so as to anchor the core. Stem 11 is provided with an upper collar 17 constituting a seat for bowl 10 and with an upwardly extending screw 18 that passes through a central aperture of bowl 10 and engages a tapped bore of foot 16, and thus servingto removably connectthe stem with the bowl as well as with the core. Atits upper end core 15 carries an upwardly extending screw 19 adapted to be engaged by the tapped aperture of a handle 20, centered above projection 14.-
Between handle 20 and projection 14,.
there may be interposed a cruciform or similar plate 21 which is centrally apertured for the passage of screw 19. This plate is provided with various smokers utensils such as a cigar cutter 22, a holder for a match locking the insert.
If the stand is to be emptied, handle 20 and plate 2 are removed and insert 13 is lifted out 0 the bowl by means of projection 14 which constitutes a. grip. After the contents of the insert have been emptied, the insert is refitted to the bowl, so that in this way ready means for conveniently discharging the stand are provided.
I claim:
1. A device of the character described,
comprising a tray having an upwardly extending tubular projectlon, a core fitted within said projection and having an enlarged foot which is countersunk within the bottom of the tray, and a handle removably secured to the upper end of the core.
2. A device of the character described, comprising an apertured bowl, an insert having an upwardly extending tubular projection, a core fitted within said projection and having an enlarged tapped foot which is countersunk within the bottom of the insert, a handle removably secured to the upper end of the core, and a base having a collar that is adapted to support the bowl and an upwardly extending screw that passes through the bowl-aperture into engagement with the tapped foot.
