To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAOQUILL P. SToUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Harrison and State of l/Vest Virginia, have invented a new and useful Packing and Storage Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of this invention to provide a simple and merchantable soap-box of novel and improved form.

In the drawings,-Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective mounted upon a holder; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the soap-box; Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof; and Fig. 4 is a fragmental frontelevation thereof.

In carrying out the invention there is provided, as a packing and storage receptacle, a soap-box 4, and referring particularly to Figs. 2, 3 and 4 of the drawings, it will be seen that the same includes a back 14, pro-- vided along its longitudinal edges, with oppositely disposed outstanding flanges 15. An open-ended body 16 is provided, the side walls 17 of which are adapted to fit between the flanges 15. Spaced rods 18 are extended through openings in the side walls 17 of the body of the soap-box, and through the flanges 15 of the back 14. These rods 18, therefore, serve as a means for holding the back 14 and the body 16 together.

A pair of lids denoted by the numerals 19 and 20 are provided, the lid 19 being adapted to serve as a closure for the upper end of the body 16, while the lid 20 is adapted to serve as a closure for the lower end thereof. These lids 19 and 20 are, as denoted by the numeral 21, wrapped about the rods 18, so that the rods 18 serve as mounting upon which the lids 19 and 20 may hinge. It is to be noted, referring specifically to Fig. 4, that in the opposite lateral edges of the extended portion 21 of the lid 19, there are notches 22. A retractile element is provided, the same being folded upon itself, and engaged in its intermediate portion between the extended part 21 of the lid 19 and the body of the said lid. The ends of this retractile member are engaged in the notches 22, and thence are carried diagonally (24) from the back of the soap-box toward the front thereof, downwardly, and passed through openings 25 in the lid 20. The ends of the retractile elements are then carried along the outer face of the lid 20, as shown at 26, and finally carried upwardly through openings in the lid, the said openings being disposed between the openings 25 and the pivotal mounting of the lid. The ends of the retractile element are enlarged, knotted, or otherwise manipulated to engage the inner face of the lid 20, to prevent the ends of the retractile element from being withdrawn from the lid, as at 27.

WVhen it is desired to introduce the soap into the soap-box, the lid 19 may be raised, and the soap slipped in place within the body 16. hen it is desired to remove the soap from the soap-box, by depressing the free edge of the lid 20, the soap will be permitted to slide downwardly into the hand of the user. Obviously, the retractile element serves to maintain both of the lids 19 and 20 in closed positions, thereby preventing the soap from sliding downwardly out of the body 16.

By referring to Fig. 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that the portions 24 of the retractile element are located relatively near to the side walls 17 of the body 16, and out of the way of the soap, when the same is introduced into, or withdrawn from the body 16.

The device, referring to Fig. 1, is so constructed that it may readily be suspended in a bath-room or kitchen, upon a holder 1 carrying other toilet-articles which are commonly necessary for a thorough ablution.
