MILK-JAR OPENER.

citizen of the United States` residing at' VVilkes-Barre, county of Luzerne, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain newl and useful Improvements in Milk-Jar Openers, of which the following is a specification.-
The object of my invention is to provide an improved device of the class and for theV purpose mentioned by means of which the disk may be readily removed from the bottle without allowing a portion of the disk, which is usually more or less covered with dirt on its outer face, .to extend into contents of the bottle.-
A further object of my invention is to provide a device as mentioned that shall firmly hold the disk so that the same shall not readily drop from the extractor after being removed. r
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view 'my invention consists generally in an extractor comprising a handle or shank, a plate thereon forming a guard, a. prong projecting forwardly and downwardly from said plate or guard and a second pi ong extending downwardly from the plate behind the first lmentioned prong.
My invention further consists in the various details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim. i
My invention will be more readily understood. by reference to the Vaccompanying part of this specification and in whieh Figure 1 is a perspective view of a' stopper extractor embodying my invention in its preferred forni. Fig. is a plan View of the saine with a portion of the shank broken away, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device illustrating the saine engaging and holding a tapered disk stopper, the stopper being illustrated in section.
Referring now to the drawings 1 indicates the shank or handle which maybe of any the paper 'disk stoppreferred'form or design ELndZ indicates. the plate or guard i therewith. The plate 2 is 'preferablyfiat and increases in width toward its outer end terminating in a pair of tongues 3 having well rounded outer ends 4. The tongues 3 are spaced apart and between the same is arranged a'prong 5 which is curved downwardly and outwardly as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The end or point of the prong preferably extends beyond the end 4 of the tongue 8. To the rear of the prong 5 is a second prong 6 which is preferably struck from the plate 2 and extends downwardly therefrom. The two prongs 5 and 6 Vextend in directions at an angle to each other7 the generaldirection of the prong 5 being forward and'that of the prong 6 downward. By this construction the disk stopper is securely held by the device as will be clear from Fig. 3 of the drawing.
In using the device the prong 5 is forced through the stopper until the plate or guard 2 eiigages the stopper and the handle or shank is then pressed downwardly to pry the stopper from the bottle. In forcing the handle downwardly the prong` 6 is projected into the stopper and-securely holds the same upon the prongs 5. The stopper can -therefore be removedy from the bottle without being partially submerged in the contents of the bottle and after being removed will not drop from the extractor.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters A stopper extractor comprising a shank, a plate on said shank, said plateincreasing in width toward its outer end termi lating in a pair of tongues, a prong exten ,lng downwardly and forwardly from sa'ql plate between said tongues and a second prong extending` downwardly from said plate to the rear of the first said prong, substantially as described.
