. ing at Baltimore, Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Retillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to non-refillablerbottles, and my object is to provide a stopper of economical construction and of. high elli! ciency in operation, and the `invention con sists in the features and combinationand arrangement of parts-hereinafter described and particularly set forth 'the appended claims.

When theparts are inthe position shown inFig l, the cover or top'8 of the valve member 7 furnishes a closure at the upper part vof the device, and the ball valve seats itself upon the'seat 10, and furnishes a closure at the lower end of the device, thus the device against the entrance of liquid, as I affording double security against the inlet of fluid. l/Vithin' the sliding valve member 7 a prong-carrying member 12 is held by bearing upon. the flaring walls at 13 of the sliding valve member 7, the screw cap or seat 10, vwhen 1n place, serving to hold this pronged member in proper relation to the sliding Valve member 7.' This pronged member extends only partway of the ylength of' the sliding valve member 7, and its prongs 14 are turned slightly inwardly at the points 15.
When the bottle is inverted, as shown the sliding valve member 7 moves through the sleeve 3 to the position shown in Fig. 2, and this permits the liquid to flow through the opening in the valve seat 10, thence through the prong member,
A and out through the' openings 16 between the prongs, it being understood thatthe ball member 11 is now held by the ends of the prongs, and thence the liquid passes through the openings at 9 and past the cover 8 to be discharged from the bottle. It will be noted that this cover 8 is ofelliptical form, presenting compartively wide spaces along its 4minor diameter, as shown in Fig. 1, whereas along' its .maj or diameter vthe cover fits closely against the inner Walls of the bottle neck. l In other words, these extended portions of thecover overlie the openings at' 9; The f purpose of this isvto prevent the introduction of a wire between theedge of the cover 8 and the bottle neck at those points on the circumference of said cover which overlie the openings' 9. These extended portions of the cover form guards in line vwith the open- -ings 9 to prevent the'insertion of a wire to tamper with the ball valve or other parts of the device. Now, when the bottle is turned from the position shown in Fig. 2 to the horizontal positionl shown in Fig. 8 or substantially thisposition, the ball valve willv Y cific form of the device or members thereof;
for instance, instead of having the valve seat at 10` for the ballprovided with an upwardly extending lip at 17, this valve seat maybe formed as shown in Fig. 5. n
In Figs. 6 and Z I- show a form or stopper in which I accomplish the same result as is. vaccomplished by the form shown in Figs. 1
and2, but with a simpler construction and with less parts. Instead of Y using the pronged member12 as a means for guiding and controlling the ball valve, I form the sliding valve member 7 so as to perform all the functions 0f the sliding valve member shown in Fig. 1, and also the functions of the pronged member 12. For this pnr pose the sliding valve member 'is providedv withI ribs 12 on its interior, these being.
formed in any suitable manner but preferably by swaging thevmetal of theI sliding vvalve member inwardly as shownvat vari'ous points, thus forming the ribs,'and.these ribs at their inner ends terminate in stops or, shoulders 15 so that the movement of the ball toward the cover or closed end 'of the sliding valve member will be limited as.

Certain of the subjectmatter herein disclosed has been made thel subject of another application filed by me, May 20, 1912, #698,555, this subject matter consisting of a fixed seat member, a. sliding valve me1nber moving therein and havin a cover por tion. with lateral openings vbe ow the same and a central 0pen1ng ,a ball valve kto engage the central opening-and a pronged member held in a sliding valve member, the prongs of whichhave stops to limit the movement of the ball to a point `removed from the lateral openings.
I claim as myinvention:
