specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 22, 1912.
' Application filed October 17, 1911. 8er1al No. 655,116.
To all what; it may comma Be it known that I, JOHN L, Hnann, a
'citizen of the United States, residing at Corral, in the county of Blaine and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements inCurtain-Stretchers, of which the following is-a s ecification.
This invention re ates to curtain stretchers, and'has for an objecttoprovide a device' of this character which will include a novel form of collapsible or foldable frame which may be readily folded when the stretcher is not in use or' when-it is defsiredto pack the same for storage or shipment. v I Another object of the invention is to rovide means for positively obtaining an e ective tension on the curtain afterits initial attachment to the frame. In the drawin ,-forming a portion of this specification an in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure 1 1s a plan view of the stretcher; 2 is a plan view showing a ortion of frame in a slightly modifie form. Figs. 3 and 4 are perspective views of the clamps'used in connection with this device.
The invention comprises a frame 17 which has its side and end bars 18 and 1'9 provided with frames 20, each including an attaching cord 21, the parallel bars 22 and 23, and the connect'in bars or bracerods 24. In this .form oft e invention the bars 22 and 23 are formed of telescopic sections. Clamping members 25 are adjustably mounted on the bars 23 and are adapted to be engaged with the curtain. The springs 26' which are rovided-forthe urpose of holdin the pews 14 and 15 of t e clamps 25 yiel ingly-en- I 7 Copies of this'patent may be obtained.
eyes 27 through which the rods 23 extend.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 2, the side and end bars of the frame 28 gaged with each other, are provided with are provided with frames 29 each including telescopic sections 30- and 31 and an attaching cord 32. 1 I
On the initial assembling of the curtain and frame, the frame is stretched so thatthe superficial area thereof is considerably greater than the superficial area of the -cur-' tain to be stretche The curtain is then placed inthe frame and the edges thereof are engaged between the gripping surfaces 16 of the clamps 25, as shown in Figs. '3 and .4 of the drawings. When the stretcher is not in use, the telescopic bars thereof may be readily separated from each other so as to permit the frame to be folded into a very compact package.
I claim:
1. In a curtain stretcher an extensible frame, extensible bars located within the frame, clamping devices adjustably sup ported by the bars and flexible means connecting the frame with said bars. I
2. In a curtain stretcher, an adjustable frame, telescopic bars located within the for live cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
