To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, JONATHAN C. DE HAVEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Carnegie, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to curtain poles, and the primary object of my invention is the provision of positive and reliable means, as hereinafter set forth, for connecting the upper ends of curtains to a pole, without resorting to the use of pins, rings or fastening means that is liable to injure the ends of curtains.

Another object of this invention is to pro vide a curtain pole to which curtains can be easily and quickly attached and suitably draped or arranged whereby the curtains will present a neat and attractive appearance.

A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by a mechanical construction that is durable, inexpensive to manufacture and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.

With the above and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of pole. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional View of a port-ion of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view taken on the line IIIIII of Fig. 2.

The reference numeral 1 denotes a cylindrical pole body that has a longitudinal groove 2 extending from one end thereof to the opposite end.

The reference numeral 3 denotes a rectangular cap block that has the outer end thereof provided with a suitable ornamentation 4. The inner end of the block 3 has a slot 5 to receive the end of the pole body 1, and in communication with the slot 5 there is a guide slot 6 and arranged in the guide slot 6 is a rectangular nut 7 that is guided in its movement by the walls of the slot 6. The nut 7 is carried by a screw 8 that extends through an opening 9 provided therefor in the block 3, the outer end of the screw having a winged thumb nut 10.

Arranged longitudinally of the groove 2 of the pole body 1 is a rod 11 and mounted on said rod is a sleeve 12 that is preferably made of rubber, fabric or a soft material. It is over this sleeve that the upper ends 13 of curtains 14 are draped and suitably arranged. The ends of the rod 11 extend into the slot 6 and each end is bent at right angles, as at 15 and then to form an eye 16. The eye 16 is arranged upon the nut 7 and encircles the screw 8, and by reference to Fig. 2 it will be observed that one side of the nut is cut away to provide clearance for the angle end 15 of the rod 11. The screws are made of a sufficient length whereby when rotated, the nut 7 will be lowered within the slot 6 a sufficient distance to permit of the rod 11 extending below and out of the groove 2. When in this position, the upper ends 13 of the curtains let can be easily placed over said rod. The winged thumb nut 10 can then be rotated to replace the rod 11 within the groove 2.

From the foregoing it will be observed that I have devised a curtain pole that will present a neat and attractive appearance in connection with a window, door or alcove frame, and that it is an extremely easy matter to arrange curtains in connection with the pole before placing the pole upon brackets.

While in the drawing there are illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, itis to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
