Description

PATENTE JUN 141870` mmm HUBERT JUDD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW-YORK.
Letters Patent No. 104,164, dated June 14, 1876.
i .1 sacrements' ne Tassen-Hooks.
The ohedule referred to In these Letters Patent and making part of the same To' all 'whom it ma/y concern Be it knownA that I, Henner L. JUDD, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented and made anV Improvement in Tassel- Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a correct description ot the same. v
Tassel-hooks have heretofore been made with a projecting arm, upon-which the cord for eurtain-loopsv or tassels has been attached. .y
These arms are usually connected to a plate that is screwed to the window-frame. The arm is; sometimes castwth this plate and afterward bent to shape, but nore usually it is a Y'separate piece, riveted to the p ate.
The object of my invention is to connect the plate and arm in a reliable manner in the act of putting` them up in place, and, at the Sametime, to obtain a very handsome cast-metal plate that can be easily nished, and an arm, that repeives an ornamental cover-` mg, to the' head, so that the screws, rivets, movable heads and nuts heretofore employed in m hooks are dispensed with entirely.
In the drawingi y Figure 1 4is a vertical sect-ion of this improved tass'el-hook, and
Figure 2 is a sectional plan at the line a: z.
The plate a is to be of any desired ornamental character, with holes for the reception of attaching-screws or nails.
akingr these An opening is made in this plate, at the edges ofwhich are dovetailed lips b b, that project from the surface of said plate.
The arm c is made with adovetailcd'block, r1, at its end, that is, of a size to set between the lips b b, and of a length to cover the opening in the plate a, the
ends. of said block resting upon the surface ofthe plate a. e
If these parts only were made use of, the arm c might be lifted out and become disconnected.
I prevent this by mak-ing the spur orspike yto project back from the block d, so that, when -the tasselhook `is being attached to the window-frame, the arm c is connected to the plate a, and the spike or spur fi driven into'the wood-work or inserted in a hoie, and then the plate anis screwed to place. Thereby the spike prevents end-motionto the` block d, and the arm c, therefore, cannot be disconnected, but is held. firmly ,by the dovetail lips b b.
, Instead of using `a porcelain head that is attached to thc u'm c-by a screw orlriret, or employingaseparate ht ad, I make use of a solid head, k, cast with the ar n c, and apply to the same a disk of velvet,
plush, )r similar ornamental material, s, and secure it` by the ring l that is closed around the edge' of the said head k.
In this mode of manufacture a handsome tasselhook can be made of cast-iron, because the surfaces can be ornamented to anydesired extent in the casting, and the hook being4 in two pieces, there is less space occupied in packing the parts for transportation.
I claim as my invention- The plate a, lips b, arm c, and block d, in combination` with the spike fi, for the` purposes and as set forth.
Signed by me this 2d dayof April, A. D. 1870.
