Figure 3 is a vertical section of the desk, showing the horizontal book-'box g and vertical book-box hf and extensiou-leaf-k; alsosimilar elevating devices, as represented in g. 2.
Figure 4 is a. section of top of the chair, showing the stop-screw e. to allow the' seat to turn onefourth of a. circle.
Figure 5 is a. top sectionof pedestal, standard, and screw.
v Figure b' represents thefwrench used toopemte'the screw b.
General Desm'tpton.
The base of pedestal cis intended vto be secured firmly to the door in the usua wey.
Onthe side ofthe pedestal is attached4 the screw b, wiich works in the/rack on the side of sliding stand ar a.
' A suitable groove is provided inside of the pedestal for 'the rack .to slide in vertically, 'and prevent its rotation.
By revolving the screw U the desk or chair is ele# vated or,4 loweredat pleasdre, to suit the height and convenience ofthe pupil.
Aexit from the desk.
A groove is provided near the top of stnndrd a, in
which screw e tits. lhis groove permits the seat to turn one-fourth of :t circle, so as to `bring the back of seat at right angle to the front of thedesk, as shown by dot-ted lines, to assist the pupil, when writing, byl bringing his side to the desk, and to allow him to rise from the desk with ease and comfort.
The desk is provided with aleztf in front at k, which, when not'in use, may belet down to close the book- 'box g from dust, and allow the pupil 'to-stand erect betweenV the desk and chair. v The verticall book-box It has a. lid or cover, l, and is intended forslates, ntlases, mnps, music, 8vo., and, in conjunction with the horizontal box g, supports the top ofthe desk.

AThe top surface being even and unobstructed,- gives plenty of room for recitation, and is readily reduced to economiz`e roomi It will seat -one-fourthl more pupils inthe same sized room than the ordinary desk, and its convenience conduces to better order.
The chair permits the pupil to sit .erect while writing,'supported by the back, which'turns with the body one-quarter of a circle.J 1t also gives ready and easy I claim as my nvention- Supporting school-desks and seats, so that their height may be easily adj usted bv means ofthe staud-' ard d, provided with a. rack, and the vertical elevating; screw b, supported in the base or pedestal c, substantially in the manner as herein specitied.
