Specification of Letters IPatent.
Patented Oct. 15,1912.
Application filed July 8, 1912. Serial No. 708,278.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VINCENT ANDRnJKovrrs, a citizen of the United States of funerica, residing at WVallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain -FiXtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to curtain fixtures, and the primary object of my invention is to furnish a curtain pole with novel curtain hangers that permit of curtains .being easily and quickly shifted relatively to the pole.
Another object of this invention is to provide curtain hangers to which the upper eddges of curtains can be easily clamped, without danger of injuring the curtains.
A further object of this invention is to provide a metallic curtain fixture that is simple in construction, durable and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in a novel construction, to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the curtain pole in accordance with this invention. Fig. .2 is a cross sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detached hanger showing the clamping member thereof in an open position, and Fig. 4 is a plan of the same.
A curtain pole in accordance with this invention comprises a hollow cylindrical pole 1 that is provided with a longitudinal slot 2 extending from one end thereof to the opposite end. The ends of the pole can be provided with suitable ornamentation for caps (not shown).
Movably'supported by the pole 1 are a plurality of hangers, each hanger comprising a strap 3 that has the upper end there of slitted and bent to provide angularly disposed lugs 4: that movably support the hangers relatively to the pole 1. The straps 8 are slidably arranged in the slot 2 of the pole and the lower end of each strap is bent to provide a horizontal ofiset support 5 for the upper edge of a curtain 6.
'Pivotally connected to each strap, as at 7 is a U shaped clamping member 8 that has a finger piece 9 whereby said clamping member can be easily moved into engage ment with a curtain placed upon the sup port 5. The clamping member 8 has the action of a cam and the upper edge of the curtain is clamped and frictionally held upon the support 5. I
A. plurality of the hangers are employed for supporting the upper edges of the curtain and it is obvious that through the medium of the clamping members 8 the upper edges of a curtain can be suitably draped and arranged to present a neat and artistic appearance.
711211; I claim is The combination with a hollow cylindrical pole having a slot formed therein extending from one end of said pole to the opposite end thereof, of hangers slidably mounted in the slot of said pole, each hanger comprising a strap having the upper end thereof slitted to provide angnlarly disposed lugs adapted to retain the hanger in engagement with said pole, a horizontal support carried by the lower end of said strap, and a U shaped clamping member having one end thereof pivotally connected to said strap, said clamping member having action of a cam for frictionally holding the upper edge of the curtain in engagement with the support of said strap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
VINCENT ANDREJKOVITS.
