To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCIS C. WALLACE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Drummond, in the County of Montgomery and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Inprovements in Puzzles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the' invention, such as will enable others sklled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part ofthis specification. i

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in puzzles and comprses essentially a board upon which balls are adapted to roll through various passageways and a rotatable partition before reaching their goal.

The invention comprises various details of Construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a top plan View of a game made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central longtudinal sectionalview, and

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a i board or plate having a circumferential flange A' and rising from the upper sur face of the board is a series of partitions, each designated by letter B, which are spaced apart and at inclinations to one another in series with a space D intervening between the two series, forming a central passageway, while the outer of each series of inclined partitions have projections D which are arallel to each other, thus forming a passageway in alinement 'with the space intermediate the ends of saidfpartitions. It will be noted that there are two series of said partitions oppositely formed upon either side of the transverse center of the board, and partitions E connect with the outer ends of the series of partitions, thus making a series of pockets each designated by letter F. Pivotally mounted adjacent to the center of the board is a rotatable turn stile N made up of two sections intersecting each other at right angles at their Centers, forming four pockets into any one of which a ball, designated by letter 0, must enter before it would be possible for the ball to pass from one end of the board to the other in order to accomplish the purpose for which the game board or puzzle is provided. Reversely disposed, V-shaped partitions K rise from the upper surface of the board in alinement with the longitudinal passageway between said series of partitions and upon either side and spaced apart from said V-shaped partitions are the inclined partitions S. It will be noted upon reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings that said turn stile, which is centrally pivoted, has a movement intermediate the adjacent ends of the V-shaped partitions as well as the ends of the adjacent inclined partitions.

In the provision of a puzzle as shown and described, it is my purpose to have one end of the board represent the Pacific Ocean and the other the Atlantic while the central turn stile N designates a lock, the balls designating boats all of which must pass through the central passageway or canal before it would be possible forthem to pass from one ocean to the other, the spaces intermediate the inclned partitions, designating slips or looks in which the boat, designated by a ball, may pass.

The object of the puzzle is to cause the several balls representing ships to all pass through from one end of the board to the other, either singly or together, the balls being caused to roll by giving the board an inclination.
