To all whom-it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDRE M. GREAN, a citizen of the United States, residing; at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Bust and Shoulder Forms, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to'means for use in connection with coats and jackets, particularly ready-made garments, and the object is to provide a simple form, which may be readily placed therein for-the purpose of fitting such coat or jacket to the wearer, and eliminating wrinkling and unsightly form.

Two embodiments of the invention are disclosed in the accompanying drawings, but it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that the invention is not necessarily limited to the exact shapes and configurations disclosed. 1

In said drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspecindicating the position the same takes on a wearer. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the form. Fig. 3 1s a rear elevation thereof. Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views respectively on the lines 44 and 5-5 of Fig. 2.- Fig. 6 is a front elevation of another embodiment of the invention. Fig. 7 is a sectional view therethrough on the line 7-7 of Fig. 6.

In the embodiment disclosed in Figs. 1-5 inclusive, a lining section that constitutes a supporting sheet 8, preferably of canvas, or comparatively stifi material is employed that has a curved lower portion 9 and an upward shoulder and neck extension 10. Arranged against the rear face of this supporting sheet is a pad sheet or strip 11 comprising a lower substantially circular body portion 12 and an upper shoulder extension 13 that is curved and tapers to substantially a point. The end of said extension preferably projects be 0nd the supporting sheet.

The lower bo y the supporting sheet lying thereover, has a concavo-convex bust-form 14: molded therein, while the extension 13 and the part of the supporting sheet adjacent thereto is also molded, as indicated in Fig. 5, to fill outthe form above the bust.

placed together in slightly dampened conditlon and molded with heated dies, sufficlent starch being in the canvas or supportmg sheet 10 to cause the two members to a here together. Afterward said members are positively connected by a line of zigzag or other stitches 15 passing through the margins of the (padding sheet 11, while the portions of sai sheets that constitute the bustform, are held together by a spiral line of zigzag stitches 16.

The position the form occupies on the wearer will be clear by reference to Fig. 1, and it will be obvious that an inexpensive article is produced, which will properly fill out a coat or jacket, and give a leasing configuration to the wearer. It W111 be evident that the device can be made very light in weight, and-because of the molded extension 13, the portion above the bust and the shoulder is properly padded.

A slight modification of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7. In this form,

the supporting sheet 17 ismade of two sections 18 and 19, against the rear face of which is placed the padding sheet 20 having an upwardly curved and tapered shoulder extension 21. A bust-form 22 is molded in both sheets, and the sheets are secured together at the bust-form by a spiral line of zigzag stitching 23. The margin of the padding sheet 20 is secured to the supporting sheet by lines ofvzigzag or other stitching 24:. In this embodiment of the invention, not only is the shoulder extension produced, but the supporting sheet 17 has a downward waist-extension in the form of two separate wings 25 and 26, the wing 25 being shown longer than the wing 26, though it may be shorter or the same length. This arrangement will afford proper means for fitting the lower portion of the article to a garment, and the wings overlapped, according to the shape thereof, thus making the same adjustable.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
