Description

Win assesl N-PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHIE UNITED STATES PATENT OFFTGE.
THOMAS DIVINE, OF CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA.
IMPROVED `HAIR-BRUSH OR COMB.
Specification farming part ot' Letters Patent N0. 104,125, dated June 14, 1870.
I, THOMAS DIVINE, of the city and district of Charleston, State ot' South Carolina, have invented an Improved Hair-Brush and Comb, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of the invention consists in attaching to an ordinary hair-brush, comb, 85e., a receptacle for containing hair-oil, hair-restorative, or any of the sundry compounds used to beautify and improve the hair, with a valve which can be controlled by the operator, in the manner as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a brush with my receptacle attached-a side view. Fig. 2 represents a comb with my receptacle attached. Fig. 3 represents an end view of the brush. Fig. 4t represents an end view of the comb. Figs. 5, 6, 7, and S represent other forms of comb and brush to which my improvement may be attached in the same form and without altering the invention.
A in the drawing represents a brush, and C a comb, with my improvement attached. a is a plug or stopper, constructed with a recess or opening 011 one side of it, as at b. c is an opening through the receptacle, by which the oil or invigorator may be, by turning the stop per, introduced into or onto the comb or brush through the opening c, which may be effected by the projecting handle d. c is a loop or handle by which the comb or brush may be suspended when not in use.
Tol use my invention, I till the receptacle with the oil or invigorator, or any of the sundry compounds known to the trade for the purpose, nearly up to the valve, put in the stopper, so arranged as to close the openin g c. Then the hair is combed out suiciently, turn the stopper` to open the valve by means ot handle d, and, as soon as the hair is suflieiently moist or wet, turn the stopper and eut od the supply, and the brush or comb is ready for use, as if the receptacle was not attached, and will be found a cheap and convenient mode of supplying these wants to a gentlem ans or ladys dressing-case; and as two preparations are often required, to render either valuable, one maybe attached to the comb and the other to the brush, and as the invention may be used in almost any form without changing its nature, it Will be found very convenient.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The arrangement and combination, with a brush or comb, of areceptacle to contain hairoil or hair-invigorator, as shown at A, with the stopper a constructed with its recess b, opening c, and handle d, arranged as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
