Be it known that I, THOMAS C. ane, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tishomingo, in the county of Johnston and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Hinge Structure for Seal-Holders and the Like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to improvements in seal holders and the like, and more especially to hinge structures for the same, and its object is to provide a device which may be readily carried in a watch pocket.

In accordance with the present invention the device comprises two members which may be generally similar in shape, hinged together at one end, said hinge being provided with a ring by which the device may be secured to a watch chain or the like, said ring serving to hold the hinge pivot or pintle in place.

The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, with the further understanding that while the drawings show an operative form of the device the invention is not limited to any strict conformity with the drawings, but may assume other embodiments that do not mark any material departure from the salient features of the invention.

In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2 with distant parts omitted. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4:-tl: of Fig. 2. F i 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a top member 1 and a bottom member 2 comprising the main portion of the device. The two members are illustrated as substantially circular in outline with a radial extension 3, 4:, respectively, on one side. The outline of the parts is not confined to that shown, for the structure may have any desired configuration and any amount of ornamentation that the designer may wish. The member 2 has what may be termed the outer face flattened, as indicated at 5, so that the memher will lie upon a Hat support, such as a table top, while the correspomling face of the member 1 may be rounded, as indicated at (3 for the purpose of distinction, so that the device is readily placed upon a support with the proper member uppermost. The member I; is usually formed with a countersunk portion 7 on what may be termed the inner face, which countm-sunk portion is designed to receive a seal 8 such as is custoinarily employed by notarics public and other o'llicials. At the extremity of the radial extension 3 there are formed laterally extending tongues 9 in spaced relation one to the other and defining a shoulder 10 between them. The member 2 has at the extremity of the extension 4t a laterally CX- tending tongue 11 flanked on opposite sides by shoulders 12, the tongues 9 and 11 being so related that the tongue 11 will enter between the tongues 9 with the outer ends of the tongues 9 so related to the shoulders 12 and the outer end of the tongue 11 so related to the shoulder 10 as to each engage a respective shoulder under circumstances to be described.

Extending through the tongues 9 and 11 are matching holes for a pivot pin 13 which latter is of a length to entirely traverse the intermediate tongue 11 and to but partially traverse each of the tongues 9, and the outer ends of the pivot pin holes in the tongues 9 are counterbored for the reception of the ends of an open ring 14 so constructed as to spring into these enlarged ends of the holes to thereby close them and lock the pivot pin in place and at the same time the ring 14; constitutes a support for the device by which it may be readily attached to a watch chain or other like carrying means typified in Fig. 1 of the drawings by a swivel snap hook 15.

The tongues 9 and 11 are so secured together and are so related that the two 1nembers 1 and 2 may be brought with their inner faces close together, but still spaced slightly apart, the slight spacing accommodating the seal 8, while the free ends of the tongues 9 and 11 are so related to the corresponding shoulders 12 and 1.0 that the two mom hers may be swung apart about the pin 13 until the ends remote from the pivot pin are spaced about a half inch apart, this giving ample room for the introduction between the two members of the paper to be impressed, while at the same time excessive separation of the free ends of the two members l and 2 is prevented.

What is claimed is 1. In a device of the character described two members having like radial extensions, one terminating in a lateral tongue and the other in two spaced lateral tongues between which the tongue of the first-named extension is adapted to fit, and all the tongues being provided with alining holes with the outer ends of the holes in the two spaced tongues counterbored, a pivot pin traversing the first-named tongue and the ends of said pin entering the holes in the spaced tongues to substantially the counterbores, said pin operating as a hinge pintle for connecting the two members together, and an incomplete sustaining ring exterior to said members and having its ends entering the counterbores in the outer ends of the spaced tongues and there lodged adjacent the ends of the pivot pin to hold the latter from accidental displacement.

2. In a device of the character described, a hinge structurecomprising two coacting hinge members provided with alined holes having the outer ends counterbored, a pivot pin lodged in the holes and of a length to extend substantially to the counterbores, said pin operating as a hinge pintle for con necting the two hinge members together, and an incomplete sustaining ring exterior to said hinge members and having its ends entering the counter-bores and there lodged adjacent the ends of the pivot pin to hold the latter from accidental displacement.
