CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 1912.
Application filed February 24, 1912. Serial No. 679,788.
To all whom it mag/ concerm Be it known that we, CHARLES l. MINK- orr andcLo'Urs KnoNrr-IAL, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan,- 1n the county and State of New York, have .1nvented a new and Improved Cap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates generally to caps and more particularly to adjust-able caps, such as disclosed in the United States Letters Patent No. 1,014,505, issued to us on January 9, 1912.
The principal object of our invention 1s to provide a new and improved cap, the construct-ion and arrangement being such may be worn by persons requiring caps of different sizes..
.A further object of our invention 1s to provide a cap, the construction and arrangement thereof being such that the cap will be securely held in position on the head.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description thereof proceeds, the new and useful features being set forth in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanyingdrawings forming a part of this specification in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the cap embodying our invention; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a partial plan view showing a modified construction.
While the cap shownl in the drawings embodies what is popularly known as a golf cap, it, is, of course, obvious that the construction herein described and claimed may be applied to caps bearing different names, all of which, however, are designed to be worn as a head covering.
The body 1 of the cap may be made of any desired size and material and is so constructed of a number ot' parts that the ends of these parts form a substantially circular opening, a portion of the cap adjacent this opening being providedl with a band 2; itv is to be particularly noted that this band does not extend throughout the periphery of this opening but that the ends 2a, 2b, of the band terminate remote from each other, as shown particularly in 2.
'lhe ends 2, 2, of the cap band are con- "open portion of the cap to nected together through the medium ot' a resilient band 3, the ends of which are suitably secured to the c nds 2, 2", in any suitable manner, preferably by being stitched thereto.
Extending around the outside of the band 2 and the resilient element 3 is an auxiliary element- 4 which may be termed an overlapping hand, the ends 4a, ll, ot' this element terminating remote from each other, the ends, however, being connected together with a resilient element 5 secured to the ends 4a, 1lb, in any suitable manner, preferably by being fastened thereto by means ot' suitable buttons 6 or equivalent construction. The intermediate portion of this overlapping band L is secured to the intermediate portion of the resilient element 3 in any suitable manner, preferably by means of stitching 7 the second or auxiliary, or overlapping band is held in position on the cap in any suitable manner, preferably by means of straps or bands S which are sewed in position.
Referring particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be noted that the particular form of cap herein described is provided with a v-izor 9, the vizor being secured to the first band 2 which is carried by the cap, the resilient element 5 being preferably 'adjacent the vizor, while the other resilient element 3 is preferably diametrically opposite at the rear of the Ycap. A
The cap, as described, may be worn by persons requiring caps of different sizes inasmuch as the elements 3 and 5, being resilient in their nature, enable the periphery of the be securely positionedA on heads of different sizes. By this construction we -are enabled to provide a cap of a single size which will displace caps of sizes smaller and larger than such cap, the result being that the stock necessarily carried by a dealer need not be made up of so many different sizes. It is also clear that a cap of this construction, by reason of its expansible feature, may be securely fit-ted on the head and is particularly adapted for outdoor use in windy weather, the cap not being easily displaced from the head. i
Referring particularly to F ig. 3, a modification is set forth, varying in a certain detail from that previously described. In this modified form of construction, the resilient second or overthe adjacent porelement 3 is unsecured to the lapping band 4 of the cap,
tions of friese eiements being; heid in piace by means of e bend oi strep 8U- Wiiieii dieis in no meieiiei 'espeet from the band or stiaps 8 pieviousiy described. Thus., when using the csp embodying this modification,
it is positioned on jdie hea d in die seme mail# nei as the form iist described and, es fue as its operation is eoneemed, diiers in no substantial respect therefrom.
Having hus desefiioed our invention, We eiaim as new, and desiie to secure by Letteis ?a'ent:-
cap eon'ipiisiop a body having ain opening therein, whereby 'the @up may be p0- sitioied on the hee-d, the Cap being` provided with e bend secured liieieio adjaieeit the said opening, the ends of the band being iemote from each other, the said ends being; Connected together by means of a, i'esiiient element suitably secured te the said ends, to geiier Wi'ii n, second oi* oveiiapping bund extending around the seid iesiiienc eiemeiit and poitions of the iiis; bend, the said re siiieii eiemeii't being seeuiod io this second reeiiieii elemen conm .Y o -e second bend. compi' body having on erem whereby the oep may be po- Y heed the emp being provided Wiiiii e band f and meuf eoiiiiee-ing *fixe ends of the second band together with stireps carried by the CapV for iiieiiitaiiiing iiio second band. in position.
in iesi'imooy whereof 'We have signed our names to this s}. eei['ice.tion in the presence of ivo subsci'iiiin Wiinesses,
