GEORGE E. LAGUE,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NORTH ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
AUXILIARY BURNER FOR GAS-STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 8, 191 2.
Application filed March 25, 1912. Serial No. 686,057.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. LAGUE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auxiliary Burners for Gas-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an auxiliary burner for use in conjunction with the ordinary burners of a gas stove in order that the auxiliary burner may be in use alter the ordinary burners are shut off and lessen cost in the consumption of gas for i ucl or heat.
Another object of my invention is to-proride a simple and inexpensive burner which may be used separate or in combination with the ordinary burners.
My invention consists of the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying shcet'ot drawings, Figure l. is a plan view of a gas stove provided with my nnproved burner. Fig. 2 is an enlarged section on line .r.:r1. of Fig. 1, showing the normal position of the auxiliary burner with l'OsPQCt to the ordinary burner.
Fi is a cross-section on line y.-y of D Fig. 1. and. l1ig. i is a perspective view of. the device showing the parts embodying my improvement.
Like reference parts.
My improved device is designed to be applied to the common construction of gasstove, as A, wherein a main supply-pipe B has a branch connection (1 with a diskbaped lmrncr-head I). which is located beow the grate. and cock E to regulate the gas supply to the luu-ncnhead.
In carrying out my invention I employ a saddle member in the form of a T-shaped tubular casting. designated by reference letter a as a whole in Fig. i, whose central branch -a is provided with a concave recess extending along its bottom, as at -a to receive the supply-pipe C, and
the outer part of this branch is provided with a gas-jet -a to act as the burner point of the saddle member. The tubular branch -a of the member -a-, communicates (Eopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
characters indicate like with the lateral tubular branches "a (4 and the ends of the latter are interiorly screw-threadcd to receive a threaded plug, as b-, and a pipe connect-ion -cto the supply-pipe B. The pipe connection -cis rovided with a shut oil cock c-. To hold the saddle member -(1.-. firmly in place upon the supply-pipe C a coil spring (lis brought around said pipe and its ends attached to screws 0, c-- which are secured in the sides of said member, in the manner shown in Fig. 3.
The gas-jet *(r'- is in juxtaposition to one of the gas-jets -jof the burner-head D. and a recess --aformed outwardly of said jet to prevcnL-air currents from blowing out the llame. When the main cock E is closed, by adjusting the cock the gas passes from the supply pipe B, through the pipe connection and fills the tubular portions of the saddle member -'a-'-, and thus provides either a large single flame or a simmer light at the point (r of the latter, to remain in constant use, and to cause a llama from the gas-jcts y'- whenever the main cock E is opened. I
Having described my imprtu'emcnt, what I claim is:- 80
The combination with a gas stove having a burner and a supply pipe communicating therewith, said burner having gas exit ori- [ices on the top thereof, of a T-shaped hollow casting, the central branch of said casting formed with a gas-jet orifice at its outer end and also formed with a concave recess to fit the upper portion of the supply pipe, a coiled spring, the ends of said spring attached to the sides of said central branch and passed under said pipe, a plug closing one end of the cross branch of said casting, a pipe connection from the other end of the cross branch to supply to the interior of said casting, and a cock in the pipe connection to regulate the supply of gas to the said casting and gas-jet orifice. v
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
