l'o all whom it may Be it known that I, LINDSLEY SoHErMoEs, a citizen of the United States, residing in Hasbrouck Heights, county of Bergen, and State of New Jersey, have, invented new and useful Improvements in Lighting-Fixtures, of which the following is a description. l

My invention pertains to that class of lighting fixtures vwherein it 4is desiredt'o. pro erly support asource of illumination vas or example an mcandescent lamp and xture throughout-'the operation of ren1ov' Y ing or re lacln shades and thus avoid the danger o detac able members becoming lost when shades are removed.

Another object of my invention is to provide a fixture with shade-en aging means which will cover and conceal om1n view the ordinary commercial lamp socket and read.-

The operation of my improved electric xture is substantially as follows :-Starting with the vshade in v'place and the various elements in the positions indicated in Fig. I, if: l

1. A .lighting lixture' having in combina-J tion means for supporting a source of illumination; and means for holding a shade in operative relation thereto, the latter means comprising a member having shade engaging means at its lower end, a threaded, portion above said means, and an internally threaded member surrounding and eoperating with said threaded portion and having at its lower end' means for acting upon said shade engaging means, whereby rotation of the said member will compress the engaging mea-ns so as to supporta shade.

2. A lighting fixture having in combinacion a member adapted to support a lamp socket; a member having Shade engaging means at its lower end, said member having a threaded portion above said shade engaging means; and an internally threaded member cooperating-with said threaded portion and capable of rotating thereon, said latter member having at its lower end on its inner surface means coperating With the shade engaging means to cause the latter to support a shade.

L1A lightingriixture having in combinaa shade supporting member secured to the supporting member and having its lower end formed into a plurality7 of resilient fingers; an actuating member surrounding said shade' supporting member, said two members having coperating means enabling one to rotate on and move longitudinally of the other; and said actuating member having at its lower end a single Wedge-shaped portion for cooperation with the resilient fingers and adapted to simultaneously compress the same to engage and support a shade.
