plainly visible. Myl invention is directed to` providing a hair pin that will have kthe top of the hair pin covered with hair, either natural o1' artificial, made in various shades,

so that all hair can be matched. This hair on the pin makes the latter invisible and also aids in making the pin hold more firmly in the hair.

Figure l shows the hair pin; the positionM of t-he hair being 'shown by the dotted line and the neck upon which it is wound byA the solid line within the dotted line. Fig. 2 shows the hair pin complete, the hair having been wrapped around the neck to form the top of the pin. Fig. 3 shows perspective" view of a shank, neck-the latter cut through crosswise at about the center of its curve-and the shoulder.

The shank I of the hair pin is made of bone, Celluloid, metal or other material suit able for hair pins. It can be made of any suitable or desirable shape. At the upper end of the shank is a shoulder 8. BeyondA this shoulder is the neck 1. The portion of this neck adjacent to theshoulder is of less circumference than the shoulder. Over this neck is wound the hair 2. The shoulder 0rdinarily will be formed by simply continuing the shank of its regular circumference to its upper end and having the neck extend from this upper end with a less circumference than the shank.' The shank in such a construction usually tapers vto the point from some point on it-s length, and `from that point to its upper end is substantially the same diameter. By this construction the hair pin will slide into the hair very readily as there is no projecting shoulder -to be pushed into the hair. I wrap the hair 2 around the neck l making the end of the wrapping of hair to lie close to the-shoulder 3. I make the hair layers thick enough to `of artificial hair and the fill out the neck sufficiently to make the top of the desired size. I A

In practice it is usually most convenient to wrap the neck so that the top of the hairV pin where it joins the shank will be of thev same circumference and shape as the lat-ter to avoid catching in the hair, and making the rest of the top according to the esthetic requirements.' The hair can be natural or artificial. An excellent effect is obtained wit-h cheapness by making'tlie lower layers upper layers of natural hair.

The hair pins can be furnished complete to the purchaser with a wrapping either of natural or of artificial hairy which is not quite of the desired thickness. upon which can be Wound a few wisps of her own hair, thus insuring a perfect match, the hair umderneath matching approximately the wisp wound -upon it. Frequently an excellent effect is obtained by making the outer hair layers slightly loose and fluify.v

The shoulders 3 3 against which the hair is wound hold it firmly in position. By having the hair covered top ofthe `hair pin 'for a portioniof its length substantially on a line with the shank the top can be pushed partly int-o the hair of the head and thefriction betweenthe hair on the head and the hair lon the top of the pin will hold the pin very lirmly in place. My improvement is capable of use in any size of hair pin.

The hair pin is used lin the same way as an ordinary hair pin, but it need not be pushed under the hair nor be hidden in any` Away, as it will be substantially invisible.

I claim- A hair pin having a shank and a neck formed at t-he end of the shank of less circumference than the shank and joined to the shank, a shoulder at the junction of the neck and shank, anda wrappingof hair around the neck fitting against the shoulder and filling up the neck to form a hair pin top of the desired size.
