Stat-eof New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

Thisinvention relates to holders for condiments, and particularly to such articles wherein said substances are held in separate compartments and are sifted from the holder separately.

The principal object of my invention is to provide an improved, effective, and conveniently operatedarticle for such purpose.

Another object of my invention is to pro vide means whereby the size of the perforations for'sifting said substances may be graduated. to sift the respective substances in suitable quantities.

' A further object of my'invention is to provide means for simultaneous setting of theadjustments to sift the desired substance and graduate the size of the perforations therefor.

In carrying out my invention, a container is partitioned to form compartments therein, and a perforated portion at its top serves for sifting the substances from said compartments. An inclined separating wall or chute, whose edge registers with the upper edge of the partition, is adapted to revolve in such manner that its edge describes a plane and the wall revolves about a perpendicular of said plane, whereby the wall may be adjusted to close either compartment and leave the other open for sifting one sub stance at a time. To said wall is fixed a rotatable ring, mounted in a bearing in said container to swing the wall around for adjustment. Said ring is provided with a finger-piece, and stops therefor, for setting said adjustments.

:An auxiliary plate, having sets of perforations of different sizes suitable for sifting the different substances, is mounted adjacent to said perforated portion, and is rotated by said ring. \Vhen said finger-piece is set for sifting a particular substance, said plate :is thereby simultaneously adjusted so that the suitable set of perforations coincide with resilient layer, interposed between said wall and partition, serves to close effectively the space therebetween to prevent accidental mixing of the sul'astances.

The lower edge 15 of the wall 10 coincides with the edge 8 of the partition 2, and said wall is formed to fit the curvature of the container wall 9, Fig. 2, so that when in the position shown in Fig. 1, the compartment 3 is covered and effectively closed, maintaining the substance therein; while the substance in compartment 4 may be conveyed out through the entire perforated portion 6 of cap 5. The ring 11 may be rotatedto swing the wall 10 inan opposite position, whereby the compartment will be closed and the compartment 3 will be open for sift,- ing the substance therefrom. There being two compartments shown in this structure,

18, 19, of slot 17, or by a positive stop being provided therefor. Suitable markings, such as Saltand Pepper may be provided on the container near stops l8 and-19 to indicate to the user the setting of said finger-piece 16 for sitting a desired substance.

A layer 20 of rubber or other resilient substance is preferably interposed between the edges 8 and 15 of partition 2 andwall 10 to insure the space between said edges being closed tightly for preventing any accidental mixing of the substances in said compartments. The layer 20 also serves to prevent wear of said edges and may be renewed from time to time. The curved portions 21, Figs. 1, 2, extending between the curved edges of wall 10 and the ring 11, likewise serve to close all spaces to prevent any accidental mixing of the substances. An auxiliary perforated plate 22 is disposed adjacent to the perforated portion (3 of cap 5 and in contact with its underside. Said plate rests on ring 11 and notches 23 in its edges fit the lugs 24: of said ring, whereby when ring 11 is turned the plate 22 is rotated therewith. The plate 22 has sets of

25, 26, of different sizes. Each set has the same number of perforations as and the centers coincide with those of the perforated portion 6 of cap 5. Said sets are so arranged relatively that when the, finger-piece 16 is set at 18, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4:, the larger holes 25 will coincide with perforations 6 for sifting from compartment et salt or other substance requiring to be sifted in larger quantities; While setting the f'mger-piece at 19, Fig. 5, will coincide the perforations 26 with erforations 6, thereby reducing the size of the latter, for sifting from compartment 3 pefpper or other substance requiring to be ted in lesser quantities. The adjustments for sifting a desired substance and for graduating the size of the perforations to sift suitable quant-ities thereof are thus simultaneously accomplished by the setting of tinger-piece 16. In this construction, although the finger-piece 16 is stopped at 19 beyond its opposite position at 18 to brin the perfo rations 26 to coincide with perforations a, the ample widths of layer 20 and edge 15 insure the effective closing of the space therebetween. 3 and 4 withsalt and pepper or such other substances; in which case the finger-piece 16 may be set for adjusting wall 10 to close either compartment while filling the other to prevent accidental mixing of the substances.

Suitable material may be selected. for constructing all the aforesaid parts.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. In a condiment holder, the combinerfinger piece for revolving said inclined wall.

In a condiment holder, the combination with a container, a partition to form compartment-s therein for the substances, and a perforated top for sifting the substances therethrough, of an inclined wall revolubly mounted to maintain a fixed angular position being adapted to revolve horizontally for shuttin one of said compartments to maintain a l the substance therein and simultaneously conveying the substance of the other compartment to sift outward, a rotatable ring fitting in a. bearing on said container and fixed to said inclined wall for supporting and revolving it the lower edge of said wall registering with the upper edge of said partition to form a continuation thereof; said wall being disposed oppositely by being revolved horizontally to allow sifting of one substance at a time; and a finger piepe for rotating said ring to adjust said wal.

In a condiment holder, the combination with a container, a partitionto form compartments therein for the substances, and a perforated top for sifting the substances therethrough; of an inclined wall revolubly mounted to maintain a fixed angular position being adapted to revolve horizontally for shutting one of said compartments to maintain all the substance'therein and simultaneously conveying the substance of the other compartment to sift outward, a rotatable rii'ig fitted in a bearing on said container and fixed to said inclined wall for supporting and revolving it, the lower edgecontainer having a slot to allow said finger piece to extend outward therethrough.

In a condiment holder, the combination with a container, a partition to form compartments therein for the substances, and a perforated top for sifting said substances therethrough, of a horizontally revolvin g inclined wall for shutting oneof said com-j partinonts to maintain all of the substance therein, and simultaneously conveying the substance of the other compartment to sift outward, a rotatable ring fitted in a bearing on said container and fixed to said inclined wall for supporting and revolving it, the lower edge of said Wall registering with the upper edge of said partition-to form a continuation thereof, and a resilient layer interposed between said edges to prevent their wear and to i'render the space therebetween closed tightly to prevent accidental passage of either of said substances from one compartment to the other, said Wall being disposed oppositely by being revolved to allow sifting of one substance at a time, and a finger-piece for rotating said ring to adjust said Wall.

In a holder for condiments, the combination with a container, compartments therein for the substances, and a perforated portion for sifting the substances, of ad ustable vmeans for shutting either of said c0mpartments to prevent sifting out of the substance therein and to convey the substance in the open compartment to sift outward, and a plate adjacent to said perforated portion having perforations of various dimensions; said plate being adjustable to register its larger perforations with those of said perporated portion for sifting one of the substances in greater quantities and to register its smaller perforations similarly for sifting one of the substances in lesser quantities.

20.In a condiment holder, the combination with a container, a partition to form compartments therein for the substances, and a perforated top for sifting said substances therethrough, of a horizontally revolving inclined wall for shutting one of said compartments to maintain all of the substance therein and simultaneously conveying the substance of the other compartment to sift outward, a rotatable ring fitted in a bearing on said container and fixed to said inclined wall for supportingand revolving it, and a plate adjacent to said perforated top having perforations of various sizes being rotated by said ring for-adjustment; the larger perforations of said plate registering with the perforations on said top in one adjustment for sifting one of said substances in greater quantities, and the smaller perforations of said plate registering with the perforations on said top in another adjustment for sifting the other of said substances in lesser quantities; said wall and plate being simultaneously operated to sift the substance through its suitable perforations.
