A further object is to provide a churn the dashers of which can be easily separated for the purpose of cleaning or repairing them.
Another object is to provide dashers in-' cluding means whereby the butter is forced downwardly ontothe bottom-portion of the their operation.
With the foregoing and other-objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction -hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of' the invention.

Be it knownthat I, JOHN W. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Todds Point, in the county of Shelby and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Churn, of which the followingnis a top 2 and the lower end of the shaft is This invention relates to churns, one of its objects being to provide a structure ofv preferably angular in cross sectional contour as indicated at 13. Gear 10 and the shaft 11 are supported by the frame 3 inasmuch as said gear 10 bears downwardly upon the upper end of the frame.
Another gear 14 meshes with the gear 10 and bears on the bottom of frame 3, this gear having a sleeve 15 extending downwardly through the opening 12 and within- Which shaft'll is loosely mounted. Shaft 11 extends'below the lower end of the sleeve 1 15 as shown in Fig. 1. The-lower angular end portion 13 of shaft 11.7.is fitted within an angular opening 16 formed at the center churnbody and thus prevented from adhering'to the dashers and interfering with of the lower dasher of the "churn. This dasher has been shown in detailin Figs. 3 and 4: and consists preferably offour radial blades 17 having their upper faces inclined downwardly toward the advancing edges of therefrom, these fingers constituting baters and each finger being provided witha wormlike advanclng face, such as indicated at 25 in Fig. 5, whereby any material in the path of the advancing face 25 will be deflecteddownwardly toward the bottom of the body 1.

The beating fingers 28 extend downwardly from the upper dasher 27 but thewormlike faces 29 thereon are-similar to the faces so that fluid or particles of butter contacted by said faces will be deflected downwardly in the same manner as when they are contacted by the faces 25' of the upstanding fingers 20.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that when shaft 5 is rotated the shaft 11 and the sleeve 15 will be simultaneously revolved in opposite directions, the two dashers movin with them. As hereinbefore stated liquid in the paths ofthe advancing edges of the blades 17 will be deflected upwardly by the inclined faces 18, as indicated by the arrows a in Figs. 1 and 4. Furthermore the advancing shoulders 19 will cause the fluid to flow inwardly toward the shaft 11, as indicated by arrows b. At the same. time the upper dasher 27 which is rotating oppositely to the lower dasher, will act on the liquid contents of the body so as to set up a downward current, the up ourrent from the lower dasheir and the down current from the upper dasher meeting at points between the two'dashers and thus producing a hi h state of agitation of the liquid. In addition to the action thus set up, the beating fingers 20 and 28, while rotating in opposite directions, serve to drive downwardly toward the bottom of the body.

I As a result, the dashers are kept clear of solid substances which would tend to interfere with the rotation of the dashers. The churn constituting the present invention is thus caused to operate easily and its efficiency is maintained at the maximum.
What is claimed is v 1. A churn including upper and lower dashers, means for rotating the dashers in opposite directions, said dashers cooperatv'ing to direct currents of fluid toward each other, there being means on each dasher for deflecting fluid inwardly and downwardly along spiral lines during the rotation of the 'dasher. v
2. A churn including upper and lower dashers, said lower dasher having means for directingupwardly the fluid in the path thereof and said upper dasher having means for directing downwardly the fluid in the path thereof, and means upon the near faces of the two dashers for directing downwardly particles in the paths thereof.
3. A churn vincluding upper and lower dashers, means for simultaneously rotating them in opposite directions respectively,
each dasher including a blade having an 1nclined face, the said faces of the lower dasher constituting means for directing upwardly liquid in the paths thereof and the inclined faces of the upper dasher constituting means for directin downwardly liquid in the paths thereo there being means upon the outer end portion of each blade for deflecthaving inclined upper faces and each blade of the upper dasher having inclined. lower "faces, all of said faces constituting 'means for directing currents of liquid from the respective dashers toward-each other, and
an angularly disposed shoulder upon each blade adjacent the outer end of the inclined face v thereon, said shoulder constitutin means for directing liquid inwardly toward the center of the dasher.

A churn including upper and lower oppositely rotating dashers, separate means .upon the lower dasher for directing a ourrent of fluid inwardly toward the axis of rotation of the dasher and thence upwardly, separate means upon the upper dasher for directing a current of fluid inwardly toward the axis of rotation and thence downwardly, and means carried by the two dashers for directing downwardly all particles in the path of said means.
6. A churn including upper and lower 7 dashers, each having radially extending blades; the blades of the upper dasher op erating to direct fluid downwardly and the blades of the lower dasher operating to direct fluid upwardly, said dashers being revoluble in opposite directions simultaneously, each blade having a shoulder at its outer end for directing fluid inwardly toward the center of the space between the dashers, and a butter basket interposed between the middle portions of the dashers and revoluble therewith.
