Specicatioii of Letters Patent.
l Application led August 23, 1909. Serial No. 514,159.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WALDo F. Pninz ,`a citizen of the United States, lresiding at Tampa, in the county of Hillsboro, State ofV Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churns; and I do here-y by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to 4which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to churns.
The primaryobject ofthe invention is theprovision of a churn in which the agitator blades are so disposed in the churn body so as to effect the proper agitation ofthe fluid contained therein to rapidly convert the fluid into butter.
Another object of the invention isthe pro-- vision of a churn in which lacteal fluid may be converted into. butter without requiring excessive manual labor vfor the operation of the churn.
A further object ofthe invention is the provision of a churn in whichl the agitator blades are capable of' adjustment and that are so arranged within the churn body as to time.
properly agitate the contents thereof for the` making of `butter with a minimum amount of labor and the least possible period of A still further object of the invention is theprovision of a lchurn which is simple in construction, readily and easily cleaned, thoroughly elhc'ient in operation and inexpensive in the manufacture. I
With these and other objects in view,.thc invention consists in the' construction, coinbination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing,' which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, and as pointed out in -the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings Figure 1 is -a side elevation of a churn constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 23is a vertical 1ongitudinal sectional view thereof."r
Similar reference characters indicate.
corresponding parts1 throughout the several views in the drawings.
designates a receptacle forming the churn body preferably constructed of lass although it may be of any other suita le matef l rial having a contracted neck 6,'forini1ig a mouth, `the, said neck being externally latter supporting a base plate 9, having formed integral therewith a vertical stand- 'ard 10, provided with an offset bearing 12,
in which is detachably mounted a horizontal pin 18, forming the axis of a rotatable driving gear 14, the latter being formed at its periphery with an annular groovel, for
the reception of a belt (not shown).
Contained centrallyin the base plate and the cover or lid' are registering apertures through which is passed arotatable shaft or rodv 16, the latter having its upper end fPatented Aug. 16, 1910.
threaded as at 7, for the mounting upon the t neel? of a detachable cover or lid 8, the
engaging a recess 17, formed in `the offset bearing 12, and detachably connected to this shaft or rod is a beveled pinion 18, meshing with the driving gear 14, so that motion from the latter will be imparted to the shaft orf rod for the purpose as will be hereinafter described. Slidably mounted upon the shaft or rod 1G,` within the churn body 5, is a hub 19, the
latter being held fast to said shaft or rod by means of a set screw 20, and vertically rising from the hub 19 are opposed out; wardly diverging dasher blades 21,- the free end portion of which being widened with respect to their opposite remaining portion and these blades gradually taper toward their points of juncture withsaid hub. The saidV bladeshave their free ends curved in opposite directions to each other; v It' is ofcourse to be understood that thel peculiar arrangement and formation of the blade 21 is an important and salient feature in the invention for the reason that it'im-4 parts a proper agitation to the lacteal fluid inthe making of butter.v
What is claimed is '1.r In ya churi1,'a rotatable dasher shaft therein, and vertically arranged daslier blades connected with the shaft, at opposite 4sides thereof, whereby vertical centrifugal action will be had upon the contents at the center of the'churn.
2. In a churn, a rotatable dasher shaftv therein, vertically arranged dashei" 'blades f connected -with the shaft, at opposite sides thereof, whereby vertical centrifugal `action Referring to the drawings, by numerals `5 of the'chjirn, each blade ta ering toward its inner end, the said blades eing disposed to lie in overlapping rela-tionuto each other.`
i '3. In achurn,v a rotatable dasller shaft 'l therein, vertically `arranged dasher blades connected With the shaft, at op osite sides thereof, whereby vertical centri ugal action will be had upon the contents at vthe center of the churn, each blade tapering toward its inner end, the said blades being disposed to lie in overlapping relation to each other, and means permitting adjustment of the 10 blades longitudinally on the shaft. 4. In a churn dasher, a hub having VertikWALDO F. PEREZ.
