VALENTINE G. LUPPERT, OF WILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRAWER-STOP.
To all whom 'lt may concern:
Be it known that I, VALENTINE C. LUP- PERT, of Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Stops; and I do hereby deolare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in furniture appliances and more particularly to an improved drawer stop,-one Object of the invention being to provide a metallic stop which can be cut from sheet metal without waste, for limiting the inward movement of furniture drawers, and insuring the proper alinement of the fronts of such drawers with the front of the article of furniture without danger of the drawers engaging the back of the furniture.
A further Object is to so construct a drawer stop of the character specified, that it can be adjusted after having been placed in position, to compensate for slight inequalities in thickness of the drawer front.
lVith these objects in view, the invent-ion consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a piece of furniture showing the application of my improvements thereto, Fig. 2 is a erspective view of the stop, Fig. .3 is a transverse sectional view of the stop, and Fig. 4: is a view of a modification.
In constructing my improved stop, I stamp or cut the same by means of suitable dies from a sheet or strip of sheet metal and the stops are so formed that they can be stamped or cut from the metal sheet without waste.
The stop comprises a body portion l which is Curved transversely or bowed in its intermediate part and the sides 2 of this body portion are straight and in horizontal alinement with each other. Depending from the body 1 at respective sides of the bowed portion and` in vertical alinement with the straight sides, are prongs 3 to be driven into the rail or sill -L under the drawer 5. The stop (or a series of them) will be driven into the top of the rail or sill in such position that it will be engaged by the inner face of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 13, 1911.
Patented Sept. 24, 1912;
Seral No. 665,516.
It is the common practice with manufacturers of furniture to make the front of drawers thirteen-sixteenths of an inch in thickness and to locate the stops just that distance from the front edge of the sill if the drawer has no bead or other ornament on its front face which must come flush with the front of the article of furniture. It sometimes happens, however, that there will be slight inequalities in thickness of the drawer fronts so that the front of a drawer will not properly aline with the front of the article of furniture, if the stops have been placed the predetermined or standard distance from the front edge of the rail or sill 4. Such inequalities in thickness may be very slight but they will be suflicient to prevent a proper and neat fit for the drawer, and it is therefore desirable that the stops shall be adjustable after they have been applied to the rail or sill to compensate for slight differences in thickness of the drawer front, whether such differences be greater or less than the standard thickness. My improved stop provides for such adjustment.
It will be observed that the stop is so placed, that the apron of the drawer will engage its bowed portion at the center of the latter. By applying pressure with a suitable tool, to the side edges of the stop, the radius of the curve of said bowed portion will be increased and hence the center of the bow or curve will be moved nearer to the front edge of the rail or sill 4. This will compensate for a slight deficiency in the thickness of the drawer front. Should the drawer front be slightly too thick, the operator will apply pressure with the same tool, to slightly fiatten the bow or cause its radius to be reduced, thus moving the center of the bow slightly fart-her away from the front edge of the rail or sill 4. These adjustments can be eftected without materially loosening the hold of the prongs 3 in the woocl of the rail or sill.
If desired, the straight side portions, may be omitted, and the bowed portion of the device extended from edge to eclge thereof as shown in Fig. 4.
Having fully described my nvention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- 1. An adjustable drawer stop, consisting of a bendable metal plate having a cur-Ved In testimony whereof, I have signed this 10 body portion and two prongs, one on each specfication in the presence of the subscribside of the cued body. ing wtnesses.
2. An adjustable draVer Stop COnSStng of O a bendable metal plate, the body portion of which has fiat sdes and is transversely Witnesses:
Curved between its flat sdes, and is provided W, J. KUNTZ, with two prongs, one on each side of the W. H. RICKART, Curved body. J. FEED. KATZMAIER.
