To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, MIKE GoLnK, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Crosby, in the county of Bighorn and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Cracking Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a nut cracking device, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a device of the above type wherein simple and effective means are resorted to for producing a combined rolling and crushing action that cracks the shell of a nut whereby the kernel of the same can be easily obtained.
Another object of this invention is to provide a nut cracking device that can be advantageously used in hotels and large restate rants for expeditiously and economically cracking nuts.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above type that is simple in construction, easy to-operate, inexpensive to manufacture and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
The above objects are attained by a me chanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the nut cracking device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the device. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the device.
A nut cracking device in accordance with this invention comprises a base plate 1 that is rectangular in plan, said base plate having an oblong opening 2 formed therein to receive a crushing block 3 that has the forward end thereof pivotally mounted within the opening 2 by a transverse shaft 4. The rear end of the crushing block 3 has the top thereof provided with a seat or concavity 5 adapted to receive the nut to be crushed. This same end of the block 3 is provided with a screweye 6 to which is loosely connected a link 7 that is pivotally connected to the ends of a bolt 8 arranged transversely of the ends of an operating lever 9. The operating lever 9 has a handle 10 and said lever is fulcrumed upon a transverse pin 11, carried by the upper bifurcated end of an upright 12 forming part of the base 1. By
moving the operating lever 9, the crushing block 3 can be shifted as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
The crushing block 3 is fixed relatively to the shaft 4 by a set screw 13 and one end of the shaft 4 protrudes from the side of the base plate 1 and is provided with a crank 14:. The upper end of the crank 14 is loosely connected to the forward end of a rod 15 and the rear end of said rod is bent to provide a depending pin 16 that extends into an opening provided therefor in the arm 17 of a rolling head 18, said arm being pivotally mounted upon a post 19, carried by the base plate 1, at one side of the opening 2. As the operating lever 9 is moved, the crushing block 3 is raised and the shaft 4 that supports said block is rocked, thereby imparting movement to the crank 14 and the rod 15, which through the medium of the pin 16 swings the rolling head 18 above the block 3. A nut placed in the seat or concavity of the block 3 is rolled and simultaneously crushed by the action of the block 3 and the head 18.
From the foregoing it will be observed that I have devised a nut crushing device embodying a pivoted crushing block and a swinging rolling head, both of which cooperate in subjecting the shell of a nut to such pressure that the same is cracked or crushed.
lVhile in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A nut cracking device comprising a base plate having an oblong opening formed therein, a crushing block pivotally mounted in said opening and adapted to support a nut, an operating lever fulcrumed above said base plate and adapted to move said crushing block, a swinging head movable above said crushing block and adapted to impart a rolling movement to a nut supported by said block, and means actuated by a movement of said block for imparting a swinging movement to said head.
