PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 31, 1911.
Patented Sept. 1'7, 1912. Serial No. 630,387.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro Gnono, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Ilbeshausen, Germany, have invented certain Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a plow of the kind fitted with two colters which are adjustably arranged at opposite sides of the plow beam for the purpose of cutting the sides of a turf strip previously to its being severed by the plow share from the ground and turned over by the mold board.
The invention consists in the provision of means as hereinafter set forth and claimed for securing the colter to the plow beam, a forked U-bolt, which is known per 86, being employed in connection with a distance piece which is divided by an inclined cut into two parts so that the outer colter can be arranged either at the end of said p'iece, parallel to the plane of the inner colter, or between the parts of thesame, at an angle to said plane.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated, Figure 1 representing a side View of a plow provided with the improved arrangement, Fig. 2, a plan of the two colters with their fastening elements, Fig. 3, an end view of the distance piece for the colters, and Fig. 4, a front view of the colter arrangement.
In said drawings a represents the handlebars of the plow, b the plow beam, 0 the mold board and d and e the colters. The latter are arranged at opposite sides of the plow beam to which they are connected by means of a forked U bolt 7 and a distance piece g, the latter having apertures, as shown in Fig. 3, to admit both parts of the U-bolt, and being divided by an inclined cut in two parts, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4:- In this manner the outer colter d may be arranged either at the end of the piece 9, as shown in Fig. 2, or between the parts thereof, as shown in Fig. 4:. In the former case the colter is held parallel to the plane of the inner colter e and in the latter case at an angle to said plane. The colters can thus be conveniently adjusted for cutting furrows of various width and cross-section. The colters may also be adjusted along the plow beam 6.
I claim In a plow of the character described, the combination with two colters and with a U bolt for holding said colters adjustably at opposite sides of the plow beam, of a distance piece threaded on the members of said bolt and divided by an inclined cut into two parts between which the outer colter can be held at an angle to the plane of the inner colter, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
