VVlTNESSES %%6M 5 v .fall"ofthe piston, and thus confuse the operation of the apparatus at the\ central station.
Another advantage that is gained by this apparatus lies in the factthat as soon as the finger hold 15 has been rotated to the left, Fig. 1, so that itican be raised, its rack 14- 'will entirely miss the point 27, thus making it possible to lift the rack without making and breaking a circuit and without the use of a pivoted pawl on the spring 19.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by let ters patent of the United States, modifications within the scope oi the claims being expressly reserved, is as iollows:--
1. In a circuit breaking devlc'e, electrical circuits, a spring connccte li,therewith, said spring having a contact point, a cyllnder, a piston in said cylinder hayinga rack with pro ect1ons thereon, a finger catch connected With said piston, a slot in the standard through which said-finger catch passes, and a slotted guard for said finger catch through any one of which slots said finger catch may be passed to break the circuits a given number of times, substantially as described.
' In a circuit breaking device, electrical circuits, a spring connected therewith, said spring having a contact poi it, a cylinder, a piston insaid cylinder havi lg a rack with projections therein, a linger 131E011 connected with said piston, a slot in the standard through which said. finger catch passes, and a slotted curved guard secured to the standard, substantially as described. I
3. In a circuit breaking a paratus, a telephone standard having e ectrical circuit wires, a cylinder, 9) piston in said cylinder and having a rack within the piston, a tinger catch connected with said piston and projecting outwardly through a slot in the standard, anjoutwardly curved guard having a pluralityof slots therein and throu h any one of which the finger catch may e passed to break the circuita number of times substantially "as descri-bed.
4. in a circuit breaking apparatus, a telemy hand this 2d day of August A. D.
