ADJUSTABLE BRACKET FOR SUPPORTING SHELVING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
I Patented Sept. 10, 1912.
Application filed May 23, 1912. Serial No. 699,150.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN T. BABBrr'r HYDE, a citizen of the United States, reslding at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have lnvented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Brackets for Supporting Shelving, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to an adjustable bracket for supporting shelving 1n tiers or otherwise, and located on the floor, counter or other elevation, to display goods therefrom; and in such connection my 1nvention relates more particularly to the constructive arrangement of the shelvmg, for such purposes.
The nature and S00 e of my present 111- vention will be more ully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1, is a view partly in elevation and partly in broken section of a hinged adjustable bracket for shelving supported thereby in position, and embodying main features of my present invention. Fig. 2, is a top or plan view partly in broken section, of the said bracket. Fig. 3, is a side elevational view of a portion of the ratcheted surface standard, and of broken sections of the bracket in an inoperative relation with respect to the standard and shelving; and Fig. 4., is a top or plan view of one of the shelves in broken section thereof.
Referring to the drawings, with particular reference to Fig. l, A, is a standard, as shown, provided with ratcheted surfaces (1 and a", on two sides thereof, and having a base a b and 6 are detachable, hinged members constituting the adjustable bracket B, having when engaging each other, a central opening 6 with the two end walls thereof arranged inclining at b and b, to form pawls, as shown in Fig. 1, for engaging the ratcheted surfaces on both sides of the said standard A, in operative position, and for thereby supporting the shelves 0 and 0 as clearly and fully shown in Fig. 1. The said two part hinged bracket is provided at one end on both sides with transverse pintles b and b, and with which the opposite depending U-shaped ends engage, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, whereby through the tilting of the said bracket members into the position as shown in Fig. 3, the same can be readily shifted along the standard A, for either raising or lowering the same for the shelves 0 and 0 into other positions than those shown in Fig. 1, of the drawings.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s 1. The combination with a standard having ratcheted surfaces, of a detachable hinged bracket having a central opening, the walls on two sides formed inclining to provide pawls to engage said ratcheted suraces.
2. The combination with a standard having ratcheted surfaces, of a hinged two part bracket with centrally arranged pawls to engage the said ratcheted surfaces and a removable shelf supported by the bracket in operative position in engagement with said standard.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of the two subscribing witnesses hereto.
BENJAMIN T. BABBITT HYDE.
