IMPRovED BRooM-HEAD.
The Schedule relerred to in these Letters Patent and making part 'of the las me To ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. SPELLMAN, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and improved Broom- Head; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which my invention is represented by a perspective view.
The object of this invention is to provide a neat, simple, cheap, and convenient head for corn brooms.
In the drawing- A represents the handle of the broom, and
B,'a metallic cap fastened to the lower end of th'ehandle byra socket, I), and extending below the end of the handle in the shape of an inverted cup, as shown at c.
Dis a bifurcated rod, screwing into the center of the cupo in line with the axis of the handle, and engaging at its lower end a metallic clasp, E, composed of a single rod, the ends of which are so formed that they can be easily hooked together or interlocked, as shown at e.
The broom-corn is inserted into the clasp, and its heads are brought together into the expanded month of the cap B. Ihe bifnrcated rod is then placed in the middle of the tuftof broom-corn, with the screwthreaded end in the center' of the cnp c, when, by turning the cotter by means of the handle A, the forked end of the rod D will engage with the clasp E, and, by continuing to turn the handle, the heads oi the broom-corn will be drawn firmly together into the cup, and thereby the broom-corn and handle are securely fastened together, forming in the most expeditio'us and simple manner a strong and serviceable broonrfor household or other use.
When the broom is Worn out the brush can be rcmoved and another inserted, by simply unscrewin g the rod D and proceedingasaboveexplained.
