WITNESSES ig' fi avron. W a 5 AUGUST KURBE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
EGG-MARKING ATTACHMENT FOR I-IENS.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 3, 1912.
Application filed March 14, 1912. Serial No. 683,896.
To all whom it may c0n0ern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST KURRE, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg- Marking Attachments for Hens, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to means for marking eggs as they are laid in order to determine which of a number of hens are fruitful and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class which may be connected with the tail of a hen in such a manner as to mark an egg when it is laid.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in. each of the views, and in which;
Figure 1 is a view showing a hen with my improved egg marking device attached; Fig. 2 a perspective view of the egg marking device detached; Fig. 3 is a side view of the device as shown in Fig. 2 with part of the construction broken away, and Fig. at is a side view but showing a modification.
In the practice of my invention I provide an egg marking device a comprising a main body part a preferably composed of thin-flexible metal and preferably approximately triangular in form and provided with two laterally directed arms a having flexible clip members a, and a backwardly directed arm of having flexible clip members a*. The body portion a of the device is provided near the front edge thereof in the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3, with an aperture a from which is suspended a crayon or other marker 5, and a fine spring 0 is secured to the bottom of the body portion a rearwardly of the aperture a and adapted to bear on the marker Z).
In practice the device is connected with the tail of the hen as indicated in Fig. 1 in such a manner that the marker 5 will be suspended in the line of the egg as it leaves the hen, and in this operation the marker will slide over the egg and will mark the same. In practice a number of the markers h are provided each of different colors, and each hen is provided with a marker, and a record is made of the hen and the color of themarker, and in this way it may be determined which of a number of hens are fruitful and which are not fruitful. In connecting the device with the tail of the hen the side clips a are folded around the side feathers of the tail and the clips a of the arm a are folded around one or more of the central feathers of the tail and this holds the marker in place.
In the construction shown in Fig. 4: the marker 6 is held by a spiral spring 03, secured to the bottom of the marker device, while in the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the said marker is suspended by a pin 6. The marker or markers Z2 may consist of crayon of difierent colors or said marker or markers may be made of any desired material and in any way. 7
The invention not limited to the construction herein shown and described and changes therein, and modifications thereof may be made within the scope of the appended claim. without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An egg marking device adapted to be connected with the tail feathers of a hen, and comprising a triangular flexible plate provided at its corners with flexible clips adapted to be secured to the tail feathers, said plate being provided centrally of one side portion thereof with a spring operated marker loosely connected therewith and adapted to be maintained in the line of the movement of an egg as it leaves the hen.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 12th day of March 1912.
AUGUST KURRE. Witnesses C. E. MULREANY, G. WVEINREICH.
