Fuarsn, ot' August-a, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, lxaveinvent-ed a new and useful Improvement in lVashing-Machine; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ,of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification, of which- Figure lv is a perspective view of a disjointed half of tub and machine. l
Figure 2 is a view of the lower surface of disk G.
B B represent disjointed halves of a common wash-A tub, having, firmly fastened upon the center ot' lthe bottom, standard B', which is held in position by means of shoulders p 1).
D D is a movable disk having perforations or holes o o', and small knuckles or slats firmly fastened to its upper surface, in the formindicated in the drawings.
The disk is firmly fastened to standard l: at its lower end.
C C represents anotherdisk of similar size, with holes o o in its surface, and knuckles or slats n n firmly fastened to its lower or under surface, in manner indicated in drawing.
This disk is firmly fastened to the lower end of hollow tube c, and is held in proper position, and at right distance from disk (I, by the projections of tube c resting upon a plate,.i, which plate rests upon shoulders r r in revolving standard b, in which position `it is adjustable and allowed to revolve at ease.
Disk or cover A a is immovable, and placed upon the upper surface ofthe tub, and act-s as a cover, with a hole or orifice in its center of sufficient size to allow tube c to revolve with ease. i
Its object is to hold in position tube e, and to prevent the escape of stealn and water.
b is a standard, of sutticient strength audfheight,
having a handle or lever, a, firmly fastened upon its upper end.
This standard has in its lower end socket m, by means of' which it is placed uponl standard B', and is allowed to revolve with ease. This standard also extends through tube c.
' c is a tube, of suflicient strength and height, hav- -ing firmly fastened upon its upper end handle or lever a'.
This tube, resting upon shoulders 'r r, by lneansof plate t' li, is allowed `to revolve at ease.
lhus movable disk D, by its connection with standard I), is allo'wed to revolve with ease, and disk C, by its connection with tube c, being held directly over and above disk D when in operation, a double and reversible motion is made to act upon the clothing and material for washing, which is placed between the two disks C and D, which becomes thoroughly cleansed by thc action or friction of knuckles or slats u n n n" in Iconjunction, caused by the rapid motion of the water and suds passing in and out of' holes o o and o o', while disk C, being movable up and down, al.
