Be it known that I, NAAMAN` D. HOPKIN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in -the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented vnew and useful Improvements in- Sanitary Toilet-Shields, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in sanitary toilet shields. f

The invention has for its object to shield or guard against unsanitary conditions, also to serve in connection with an antiseptic toprevent the transmission of contagious diseases.

A further object is to facilitate 'the use or application of the device in connection with a water-closet seat. l

A still further object is to provide for the ready transportation, attachment or packing A still further object is to carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, expeditious and effective manner.

The invention consists of certaininstrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claim'.

In putting my invention vinto practice, I produceffrorn suitably prepared or treated paper a shield 1 which is cut to requisite dimensions to accommodate its appllcation to the standard or usual sized water-closet seat, as indicated particularly by Fig. 3, said shieldor protector having the required opening, as 2, produced therein in coincidence with the usual closet-seat opening.

.suitably cutting the aper or shield along such lines as to provi e a tongue or blank 3, which is utilized by being adapted to be turned or folded back under the protector or shield, as indicated in dotted lines inFig. 2 to provide a double thickness of the material at a point or the front end of the seat where especially desired as will .be readily appreciated. An extension or forward-end portion 4, which is defined by inwardly cutting or notching the paper at its lateral edges as at 5, is adapted to be utilized for folding downwardly along the forward edge of the seat, and in under theseat and therebetween and the top forward edge of the closet-bowl, the forwardly inturned tongue-forming portion 3 being also received or inserted under the down-turned portion of the extension 4.

The lateral-notching of the paper, as at 5, is preferably eHected by producing the notches 1n V-form, in order to allow of the resulting lateral portions 6 and said forward end eX- tension or portion 4 folding downwardly as seen in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, the purposes of which are apparent.

The protector or shield 1 has its rear-end slitted along parallel li'nes as at 7 with respect to the seat-hinges, so as to allow of the resulting tongue-like portion 8 being folded back under the shield and to shield or protect the Seat at that point which would otherwise be exposed by reason of the notch or recess resulting as at 9 in formin the tongue-portion 3,'the purpose of whic recess or Inotch is also obvious.

The shield or protector, thus formed, may as above indicated be treated to an antiseptic preparation for intercepting the transmission of contagious diseases; also said shield or protector is adapted to be suitably or compactly folded for shipment or packing while it may be suspended in folded or compact form for use in the toilet room. It will therefore be apparent from the foregoing that effective sanitary means is provided for water -closet seats for protecting or shielding the body. from contact with the latter at all points and also for reinforcing those parts of the shield where mostly needed.
