To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT E. BLACK- .uxx. a citizen of the United States. residing at Mount. Vernon, New York city, New
York, have invented certain new and useful switches, panel boards and the like, and
which is made up of one or more detachable units so as to be extended to any desired size.
My object is to provide an economical and simple construction of such a cabinet, and for this purpose the parts are preferably 'niade of sheet metal stamped out and bent into shape. and having formed integrally therewith as much of the parts of the cabinet as is possible.
My invention will be defined in the claims. cm the drawings which show the. preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a lrm ritudinal section of the box made up from three units and with tlie'lid raised: Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same with the id closed; Fig. 3 is a transverse section through 3--3 of Fig. 2 showing the lid in raised position; and Fig. 4 is a detail section through line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
. Since the units or sections which make up my box are exactly similar and interchangeable, a description of any one w ll sufiice.
1 indicates a body section formed of sheet metal stamped out and with sides bent upwardly as shown. The ends of such a body section are open, and are provided along their border with bolt holes indicated at 15, whereby they may have attached thereto either an end wall 3 or an auxiliary member 2, which I call a strap union, for joining two said adjacent body sections together. The strap member 2 as shown is similarly beat up at the sides and is coincident with the body sections throughout. The end wall 3 is provided with vertically-disposcd inturncd flanges 13 and a horizontally-dis posed inturned flange 14 as shown, and both the flanges of these end walls 3 and the bordering edges of the strap union 2 are provided with bolt holes similarly disposed so as vto match the bolt holes at the adjacent:

formed in the usual manner, and the end walls 3 are likewise provided with such knockout plugs 12, whereby connections may be introduced to the interior of the box.
One side wall of each body section 1 has preferably. formed integrally at its upper end turned-over hinge loops 5, and a cover section 4 (one for each body section) has similarly formed hinge loops 6, whereby a rod 7 may be inserted through the hinge loops 5 and 6 to suitably hinge the cover sections and the body sections together. Running across all of the. cover sections 4 and connected thereto by suitable bolts is an angle bar 8, which serves tohold said cover sections together and form a common lid for the entire box. Spaced apart along this angle bar 8 are suitable weakening notches 9, whereby said bar may be easily broken to lit the length of lid for which it is designed. It is understood that the units may be built through the bolt holes as shown, and that the angle bar 8 employed to connect the cover sections is broken off for the right length. The notches 9 preferably are arting edges of two cover sections, whereby the connecting bar 8 will not be weakened at these points. i
The bolts shown as connectingthe bar 8 to the cover sections 4 at 10 may be interchanged at any desired point witha handle .knob 16 as shown in Fig. 4. In thiscase the handle knob 16 has a reduced end extending through the cover section and the shown, whereby it serves to hold all of these parts together. each body section adjacent this knob 16. and bolt 10 is formed with a slight depression'in which the latch member 17 may spring and by frictional engagement therewith hold the lid closed.
Various modifications may be made in the detailed construct-ion of my invention with out departing from the spirit thereof as defined in the appended claims.

I claim: 1. An outlet box comprising in combina tion one or more body sections, a strapunion between adjacent body sections, said body sections and strap-union being pro- .vided with matched bolt holes for connecting two of such sections together, detachable end walls having intnrned flanges similarly provided with bolt holes so as to be interchangeable with said strap-union, a separate cover section hin ed to each body section and a cross-bar 0 angle iron having weakening notches at intervals thereon,
said cross-bar being connected to and hold-' ing together all of said cover sect-ions to provide a common lid for said entire box.
3. An outlet box comprising one or more body sections formed of stamped metal turned up at the sides with knock-out plugs in said sides, a strap-union bet-ween adjacent body sections, said body sections and strap-union being provided with matched bolt holes for connecting two of said body sections together, detachable end walls with knock-out plugs therein having inturned flanges similarly provided with bolt holes so as to beinterchangeable with strapunions,'a, separate cover section formed of stamped metal hinged to each body section, and a cross-barconnected to and holding together all of said cover sections to provide a lid for said entire box.

An outlet box comprising in combination one'or'more body sections formed of stainped metal turned up at the sides with knock-out plugs in said. sides, a strap-union between adjacent body sections similarly bent up at its sides and coincident with the bottom and sides of said body sections, said body sections and strap-union being provided with matched bolt holes for connecting two of said body sections together, de-
changeable with said strap-union, a sepa rate cover section formed of stamped metal hinged to each body section, and a cros bar connected to and holding together all similarly provided with bolt holes so as to be interchangeable with said strap-union, a separate cover section for each body section having an integral hinged loop thereon, a single rod passing through the hinged loops of said cover sections, and said body sections, and a cross-bar connected to and holding together all of said cover sections to provide a common lid for said entire box.
6. An outlet box, comprising a plurality of body sections, and a strap-union between adjacent sections .and which is bent up at its sides and extends along the bottom and sides of said body sections in a direction transverse of the box, said body sections and strap-union being provided with matched holes to receive fastenings forconnecting the same together, a cover section for each body section, and a cross bar connected with and holding said cover sections together to provide a common lid for said entire box.
