Description

T. DONAHUB. LOOK CASE.
(No Model.)
No. 552,868. Patented Jan. '7, 1896 INVENTOR 1720M floizafiua- ATTORNEYS I WITNESSES:
ANDREW IEIAMH. WOWQWASNIIGTOK 11C UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
THOMAS DONAIIUE, OF HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNIIENTS, TO ADELBERT J. IVARNER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LOCK-GAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,868, dated January '7, 1896.
Application filed April 4, 1895. Serial No. 544,450. (No model.)
To [Z5 whom it may concern.-
lie it known that I, THOMAS DONAHUE, a citizen of the Unit ed States, residing at I'Iampshire, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is an improved construction of sheet-metal lock-case, the object being to provide an exceedingly cheap and simple means for connecting the case and cap with 1' 5 the face-plate.
*ith this object in view my invention consists in the peculiar construction of these several parts and their novel combination or arrangement, all of which will be fully described,
and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view showing in perspective the parts of the case detached, one portion of the case being broken away to more clearly show the face-plate. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the case when properly assembled, the guide-plate being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring now to the drawings, A indicates the face-plate, B the ease, and O the cappiece, said cap and case being constructed of either sheet or other metal shaped as shown, and near the forward ends of the top and bot- 5 tom edges are formed slots D D. The faceplate has inwardly-projecting guide-plates E E attached thereto, upon which the flanges of case and cap bear, and these guide-plates are formed with laterally-projecting lugs or extensions, which extend through the slots D D when the face-plate, ease and cap-pieces are assembled as shown. By means of this construction the face-plate, case and cap are securely held together and can be easily assembled and detached, when desired.
The projections upon the guide-plates can be turned up or riveted, if desired; but in practice I prefer to have said end filled, so the case and cap can be easily removed.
It will of course be understood that I bind the case and caps together by means of screws or rivets, the construction herein described being intended to unite the face-plate with the case and cap-piece.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is-
The combination with a face plate, having guide plates provided with lateral projections, lugs, or extensions, and the case and cap pieces having slots to receive said projecting lugs or extensions, substantiallyas shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS DONAHUE. lVitnesses EDITH G. HEALEY, J OSEPH WARNER.
