To all whom t may concern-f Be it known that I, CORNELIUS F. CounsoN,-a resident of Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in findow-Screen I-Iaugers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in window screens and more particularly to hangers or attaching devices therefor,- the object ofthe invention being to provide hanger devices which can be cheaply constructed and so that they can be readily secured to the screen and window frames respectively and support the screen in such manner that it can be freely swung outwardly and at the same time prevent lateral displacement and permit the screen to be easily removed when desired.
`With this object in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of part-s as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim. l
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View illustrating the application of my improvements, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the hanger devices.
l represents a window frame and 2 the frame of a. screen 3. To the oiiter face of the top member tof the window frame a plurality of brackets 5 (preferably two such brackets are employed), will be secured by means of suitable iastening devices. Each bracket 5 is made with two upturned, open hooks 6 lying in the same horizontal plane and separated from each other. Each hook bracket 5 is made of wire which is first bent upon itself and the double strand of wire is then bent to form two upturned hooks 6 separated from each other. The free ends of the wire project upwardly and are twisted together to form a shank 7, the upper end of which latter is bent at approximatel right angles and forms a penetrating tooth7 to enter the top rail of the window frame.
The bracket is also secured to said top rail 4 by means of a screw 8 which passes between the hooked members of the bracket. The other member of each hangeralso consists of wire bent upon itself toform a horizontal arm or cross head 9 to engage the hooks of the biacket,tlie wire of which said cross head is composed being extended downwardly from the central portion ofthe lat-ter to form a shank l0 provided atfits lower end with an eye or loop 11 for the accommodation of a screw 12 whereby the device is secured to the frame of thescreen 3.
In applying the screen to the window frame, the cross heads 9 are dropped .into the open hooks 6, of brackets IVhen the screen has been lowered to normal vertical position, the upper end of the screen frame will rest closely under the top member 4 of the window frame. The screen can be swung outwardly a considerable distance 4without becoming detached from the window frame, and still, the screen can be easily removed, when it becomes desirable-to do-so. Any suitablemeans may be employed for securing the lower end of the screen frame to the sill of the window frame.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
W'indow screen attaching devices comprising a bracket consisting of a wire bent upon itself and then bent forming two upturned hooks spaced apart, the free upper ends of said wire being twisted together forming an upwardly projecting shank, and a horizontal arm to engage said hooks, saidarm consisting of wire bent upon itself and having free ,ends connected and forming a depending shank, and means for securing saidshank and arm, one to a window frame and the other to a screen frame.
