My invention relates to improvements in hammocks and more particularly to hammocks comprised mainly of basket work fabric and its object is to provide the same with an improved detachable and adjustable back member, and to provide the device with various new and useful features ashereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a device embodyingmy invention; Fig. 2 an end elevaof the samewith parts broken away; Fig. 3 an end elevation of the detachable back and a transverse section of the bottom and bottom frame; Fig. 4: a rear elevation of the device with the end members omitted;

On each suspension rope 8 is secured a hook 9 and on each end frame oppositeeach hook is attached achain 10 to adjustably engage said hook and support the end frame in any preferred position, horizontal, vertical, or inclined as occasion may require.

To detachably secure the post 6 to the frame 1 I provide angle lates 11 extending up opposite each edge of the post and also extending beneath the frame and flanged inward at the bottom. Between these angle plates and parallel with the vertical side of the frame 1 and also spaced apart therefrom by the thickness of the post 6 is a filling block 13 thus forming a rectangular socket between the frame 1 and block 13 at opposite sides of the post and the plates 11 at opposite edges of the same.

Extending beneath the frame is a detachable bar 12 embraced by the horizontal extensions of the plates 11 which is secured to the frame by screws 14 extending through the inwardly projecting flange portions of the plates and the bar 12 and into the bottom frame, the other end of the bar 12 being secured directly to the said frame by similar screws 14.
