ADJUSTABLE FISHING-POLE HOLDER Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1912.
Application tiled January 5, 1912. Serial No. 669,641.
To all' whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH RAEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady. inthe county of' Schenectady and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Fishing-Pole Holders, of which the following is a specification.
acter which may be readily This invention relates to fishing rod holders and particularly to that type which are adapted for boat use.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device of thisV charattached to the side of the boat andv wherein the bracket arm.may be readily adjusted to secure the roper inclination of the pole or to fix its horizontal adjustment, z'. e., the direction at which the rod projects from the boat.
Further. bjects of this invention will appear asY the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this and which application,
1s a s1de elevation.
Figure 1 Fig. 2 is a `vertical sectional view taken on the line v 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an edge elevation.
Referringmore particularly to the drawing, 1 re resents a yoke-shaped clamping member aving a headed clamping screw 2 threaded therein and provided with a thumb wing 3 at its end. Formed integral Y with the clamping member 1 is a semil standard 7 which web 4. The Vstandard is hollow, as shown in Fig. 2 and is provided with a pair of shown at 10, to receive the corrugations or' circular web 4 having al plurality, of perorations adapted to be engaged by the spring Vpressed locking pin 6 carried by the is pivoted at 8 uponl the slots 9 in its sides for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The upper end of the4 standard 9 is serrated or corrugated, as
serrations 11 on a boss 12 which depends from the pole supporting bracket 13. In
lorder to hold the serrations of the boss 12 and the standard 7 in engagement with.
. f each other,
-boss and a bolt 14 is passed through the extends through the standard where it is surrounded by a spiral spring 15, one end of which engages a shoulder 16 and the opposite end of which rests upon a transverse end 17 passed through the bolt and having its ends operating in the slots 9. The pin 17 acts to prevent the bolt from turning and at the same time affords a limiting stop for the spring 15. By raising the bracket 13 against the tension of the spring, it may be readily turned upon the/bolt 14 so as to place the same at a desined'angle to the clamping member 1. The standard and bracket may also be adjusted,l to secure lthe proper inclination of' the pole or rod by removing the pin 6 from the apertures 5 and moving the standard over the web 4. The rear end of the bracket is upturned, as shown at 18 and a socket 19 is formed in its end to receive the 4butt of the rod while the forward end of the bracket 13 is open or bifurcated, as shown at.20, to receive the handle of the rod adjacent the reel seat. Seated in the bifurcation of the bracket is a spring 21 which is bulged inwardly between its ends so as to roduce a restricted' neck 22, through which the handle must pass to beproperly seated.
I Vfound to be necessary, the device as it is put on the market for sale, may include a spike or spear like member which may be driven into the ground and which will carry a web similar to 4 in Fig.V 1. This would permit the device to be used on shore as well as upon a boat, and in this instance, the pivot point 8 would be in the nature of a thumb screw instead of a straight pivoted stud, as is shown in Fig. 2.
What is claimed is A device of the class described com rising a mounting device, a web thereon, aving a lurality of apertures therein, a standard ivoted to the web, a spring pressed loc ing pin carried by the standard and adapted to engage the apertures 1n the web, a pole supporting bracket rotatably mounted upon the standard, said standard having la serrated head, a boss on the bracket having a serrated surface to engage the serrated head on the/standard, a pivoted bolt passingv through. the boss and enterixng'the In lieszimony whereof I afxiy signs;-
r r4standard, a. sp1-mg surrounding the pivot- Lure in presence of two witnesses.
bo1t`and hawmgone` end limited on the l standard, and 'a transversein passed,
5 through the end of thebolt an forming a Witnesses:
limiting st'op for the opposite end of the E.. EDMoNsToN, Jr., spring. V.'B. lHILLYARD.
