To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS A. BnLK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Croghan, in the county of Chesterfield and State of South Carolina, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in plows and more particularly to plows of the half-shovel type, and the improvement resides in the new and novel means for connecting the plow in position, and bracing the wing portion thereof so as to preclude any possibility of the same being bent back parallel with the beam of the plow during its operation.

Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment for plows of this character which includes means for bracing and adjusting the wing portion thereof whereby the device when in position may be adapted to move the wing portion of the plow forwardly to the desired angle. Upon releasing the pressure, the wing will return to its normal position.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very eflicient in operation.

With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel fea tures of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.

In describing my invention, I shall refer to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The numeral 1 designates the plow stock that depends from the plow beam not shown. and said stock is formed of a single strip bent intermediate its ends as shown at 2, and comprising a pair of arcuate parallel side bars 3. The bent portion 2 of the stock is at the lower end thereof, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing. The plow 4 which is of the half-shovel variety is adapted to be positioned against the lower end of the stock against the outer edges of the side bars. I

Positioned through the plow f is a bolt 5 which has its head disposed on the outer face of the plow and said bolt extends between the side bars 3 of the stock and has its projectmg end externally threaded for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully described; Arranged across the opposite edgesof the side bars from which the plow is positioned, is a substantially U-shaped clip 6 that is centrally apertured, so that the projecting end of the bolt 5 will extend therethrough. An

adjusting nut .7 is mounted on the end of the bolt and is adapted to bear against the outer face of the clip 6. The clip 6 has extending from one end thereof, an integral arm, which comprises a downwardly extending portion 8 that projects to the rear base of the plow and which then extends outwardly as shown at 9, substantially parallel with the wing portion 10 of said plow. The outer end of the portion 9 of the arm is apertured and internally threaded, so that an adjusting set-screw 11 is adapted to be positioned therethrough, and has its inner end bearing against the inner face of the wing portion 10 of the plow.

In operation, the plow is positioned on the stock as is clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, and it is obvious that after the clip is in position upon tightening the nut 7 the cooperation of the bolt 5 will securely clamp the plow to the stock. The arm that is formed integral with the clip will have its portion 9 extending parallel behind the wing portion of said plow so as to form a brace therefor and prevent the wing portion from being bent around parallel with the beam of the plow. This is an objection to which this type of plow is open as upon hard usage, the wing portion is likely to bend. The set-screw 11 through the projecting portion of the arm enables the wing to be adjusted to the desired angle, as it is obvious that upon moving the screw through the arm the wing will be moved outwardly. Upon returning the screw, the wing will spring back to its normal position.

This type of plow attachment will be found very durable, as it forms an adjustable as well as a strengthening means for I upon tightening the nut, the plow will be securely locked in position. The plow is easily released from the stock, as it is only necessary to remove the nut 7 whereby the plow and bolt may be easily taken from the stock.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while Ihave shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. The combination in a device of the class described of a stock, a half-shovel plow, a

releasable connection between said stock and plow, an arm projecting from said connection and disposed adjacent the rear face of the wing portion of the plow, and a set-screw extending through said arm and bearing against the inner face of the wing portion or the plow. v

2. The combination with a plow stock formed of pair of parallel arcuate side bars, a half-shovel plow positioned against the front faces and near the lower ends of'the bars, a bolt extending through the plow and between said bars, a substantially U-shaped clip embracing the rear and side faces of the side bars, means engageable with the bolt for clamping the cli and plow and stock to gether, and releasab e clamping means on the outer end of the clip for holding the wing portion of the plow in the desired position of adjustment.
