Be it known that I, O'rro GASAU, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have `invented a new and Improved Attachment for Mattress-Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

The invention is intended more articularly for use in connection with, an as constituting an A.essential part of, thejrames on which woven wire'mattresses are Silbported in stretched form. i

The object of my invention is to provide S11 Ol'tin means for the mattress frame i capable o d'ustment to adapt the mattress to beds of di erent widths.

By means of my invention it will not be necessary' to manufacture mattress frames to correspond with each and every width of metallic bedstead, because the attachment I have devised permits of a ready adjust ment being made that will adapt the mattress frame to different widhs of bedsteads, fwithn reasonable limits. n the practical carrying out of my invention provide also for constructing the attachment in such :form that one will answer for a right and left member, or for the head or foot of the mattress frame. I thus avoid the necessity of making several different attachments for the fourcorners.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifi'- cation, in which similar characters o f reference indicate corresponding parts 1n all the views.

It is usual to provide mattress frames with laterally projecting members adapted to rest on a side rail, as 10, of the bedstead. My nnproved attachment for this purpose, as indicated by the numeral 20, is adjustably secured so as to permit of lateral adjustment to give it more or less extension.

In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated by Figs. 1 to' 5 of the drawings each corner attachment consists of a horizont-al member extending transversely of the mattress frame and received by a suitable' formation. on the adjacent corner bracket 13. The bracket shown in Figs. l to 5 is formed with au open recess 13 ranging transversely, said recess accommodating the' adjustable supporting attachment 20. Said -attachment is illustrated as having a longitudinal slot 21, through which passes a bolt, a thumb screw, or equivalent fast nino' member 22, which after passing throng 1 the slot of the supporting attachment 20, engages the end wall 13b ot' a bracket 13 preferably in line with the tubular portion 13cv of said bracket, that receives an end of the side rail or tube 12 of the mattress frame. In connection with the bolt 22, a washer 23 may advantageously be employed to give a substantial bearing agamst the supporting bracket 20. It will be obvious that by loosening the bolt or equivalent element 22, the attachment 20 may be adjusted transversely to project it more or less as desired, that it may properly seat on the side rail 10 of the bedstead. The outer lower corners of the attachments 20 are rabbeted, as at 24, see Fior 2, to1 prevent endwise play between the be stead rails 10. The fastening member 22 may be removed and'the attachment 20 reversed to. bring the supporting ends to the right or left, and therefore the single form ofthe-"attachment is applicable to either. of

Besides providing the adjustable attachments\20, the forni of the corner bracket 13 has 'been'improved by me so that `the one bracket will answer for any of the four l corners. It Will be seen from an inspection ofFigs. 2, 3 and 4, that the bracket is provided With acentral strengthening web 13d,

and that'the top and back surfaces 13e and '13t are plane surfaces which will accommodate either end of either of the angle bars 1&1 employed at the head orfoot ofthe mattress frames .of 'Lhewcharacter referred to. Therefore only the sing-le form of corner bracket is n'ecessarkfor themaking up of a mattress frame.

Inthe4 form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 6, the adjustable,supporting attachmentconsists of a member bent to form the legs 30 joine'd'by the .bend 31, and these legs are formed with a: series of registering e holes 32 and are adapted to slide in parallel horizontal slots'40 in the corner bracketI 41.
