DOB CHECK AND. HQLDEB..
Speeiication of Letters Patent.
Application med July 31911. serial No. 636,603.
To all whom it may concem; Be it known that I, AlnxANDER RIsPEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Door Check and Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in door check and holders, the primary object of the invention being the provision of neet-ion, whereby the link is held fast by` means of a springcatch to retain the door in the desired position. i
A further object of the invention is theprovision of a door check and holder, one
' view which will ap of the connecting members of which is provided with a casing in which is mounted a spring actuated lock or pin co-acting with an oppositely disposed lug in combination with two links, one "of said links being connected to the doorwhile the connection carrying the casing and spring is connected kto the door casing, the link pivoted to the casing bein provided with a peculiarsha-ped lock or lug adapted to engage the spring actuated lock and be impinged against the lugs to retain the door check or holder in the extended or door open position.
With the foregoing and other objects in ar as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinaftertde` scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodimentof invention-herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a sectional view through the door casing and door showing the door held in open position, dotted lines showing the position of the holder when the door is closed. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the device extended. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the connect-ing device carrying the trigger or lock. Fig. 5 is "a,
f detailed view of a portion of the link carrying the catch or lug.
Referring to the drawings, A designates i' the door casing or jamb and B the door as clearly illustrated -in Fig. 1, and connected to the door casing is the plate or basel 1, while connected to the door is a plate 11 carrying the eyed lugs 11',Y between which Patented-Aug. 13,1912.
are connected the vlinks for properly holding the door in closed or open position or Ain an lintermediate position as shown in The plate 1 as clearly shown, is provided with a pair of eyed lugs 2 in which is mounted theinner end 3 of the inner link 4, a pivot 2 pivoting said link to the eyed lugs 2.- The opposite end of the link or arm is provided with an eye 5 through 'which asses a pin 6 by'meansof which the sai eye 5 is pivoted .to the eyed terminal 7 of the other link or memberS of the device, the said link 8 being provided with an `eyed terminal 9, which is ivoted by means of: the pin or 11 of the plate 11. l
It will thus be seen that the device is composed primarily of two connecting plates, one of which is adapted to be connected to Y the door jamb and the-other to the door with pivot 10 to t e eyed lug two arms or links interposed therebetween and so mounted/as to slightly retard the' swinging of the'door in either direction to preventthe slamming thereof.
Carried by the plate 1 and formed at right angles to one end thereof is a casing or cylinder 12 provided with a removable cover 12', and in this casing ismounted for reciprocation a bolt or pin 1'3 provided with a rigid collar 14, which forms an abutting means for the outer terrninalfot the spring 15 which'is mounted insaid casing and surrounds the bolt or pin 13 so as to exert an outward tension and to present the locking end 20 of 4the boltvor pin in the space 16 and adjacent'lto the co-acting stationary or integral lug 1'7 of the plate 1. Formed integral with the armor link 4 intermediate of its ends and upon the side adjacent to the plate 1, when the same is in extended position, is a lug or catch 18 which is provided with a pointed end terminal 18 and with a rib or groove 19 intermediate of the end and link, the same being' so disposed that when theI device is in the position it assumes as shown in Fig. 1, the said point18 will be ybetween the lug 17 and the casing 12 and the locking end 20 of the bolt 13 will be in engagement with the groove 19 of the lug 18 thus locking the said'lug between the end ot the ooit emi the lug l? so that the door will be held inthe position es shown in )E l and cannot be very ieedily dieplaoed until, desired by the usuel closing manipulation thereof. En oi'dei` to ifevent the bolt oi 4 from tuining Within t e casing l2, the outei1 end et 13 is ehouidered end is .mounted in e iectengueiiopening in the Weil of the cesing 12, the seid boltheving e reciprocating motion Within the seme and guided by the opening in the end of the seid casing 153.
