.ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN L. LAMB, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Nashville, in the county of Davidson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Attachments for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvementfin 'attachments for sewing machines, and has for its object, the provision of means adapted to be attached to the stabbing device of harness sewing machines, for channeling the leather in advance of the stitching mechanism, to provide a channel or groove for re ceiving and hiding the thread or stitch.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of the awl bar, with the attachment in lace; Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. 1; and, *ig. 3 a perspective view of the attachment.
The present embodiment of the invention consists of a blade 1, and a shank 2, offset laterally from each other, and connected by a portion 3, at aoprpximately a right angle to both blade and shank.
The shank 2 is in the form of a loop, having a central longitudinal or vertical slot t, and having its free or upper end rounded, as shown at 5. The blade is substantially rectangular in cross section, and is beveled at each sideat its free end, to form a cutting edge or point 6. It will be noticed from an inspection of Fig. 1, that the blade is also curved in the plane of its width, so that when in place, one corner 7 of the blade is in rear of the rear edge of the blade.
The horizontal connecting portion 3 is provided with a vertical opening 8, and with a threaded opening for receiving a screw 9. The opening 8 is atthe front of 'the said portion, and the screw is at the rear.
The attachment is connected to the and bar 10 of the machine by meansof a set screw 11 which passes through the slot 4, and engages athreaded o ening 12 in the awl bar. By loosening t e screw 11,the blade may be adjusted vertically. The attachment is arranged in front of the awl 13, with the corner 7 adjacent to the said awl, and with the shank 14 of the aw-l passing through the opening 8. The screw 9 bears against the lower end of the awl bar 10, and assistsin holding the attachment firmly in Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 30, 1911.

lVhile the device is shown as attached to the awl bar of a sewing machine, it is obvious that it might with equal facility be attached to any stabbing device, that is any device for making the hole for the thread of a sewing machine. This is true whether a solid or a hollow 'awl is used.
I claim:
1. In a sewing machine, the combination with the awl bar and the awl, of an attach ment comprising a blade and a shank off-set laterally from each other and a connecting portion between the blade and theshank and at approximately a right-angle to the said blade and shank, said connecting portion having a bearing for slidably engaging the shank of the awl and having a screw threaded recess adjacent. to'the bearing in the upper face of the said connecting tion, a screw threaded into the recess for bearing against the lower end of the awl bar, the shank having a longitudinal 'slot and a set screw passing through the slot and engaging the awl bar to adjustably connect the attachment thereto.
