Definitions
- This invention relates to a so-called selfelastic material that is to say to a material which is woven without the use of rubber threads in such manner that it shall be very extensible, which material owing to its special method of weaving is particularly useful for various purposes, for instance, for underwear, ladies blouses, band ages or the like.
- the invention consists chiefly in the material being woven. in a well known manner with perforations, or open Work rows, which can be arranged in accordance with any desired pattern, and in one of the two twisted selvage threads arrangedon each side of the perforation, being twisted to the right, while the other one is twisted to the left the two threads on each side of the openwork being cross woven as clearly shown in the drawing.
- This method can be used both in plain and in crape or the like self elastic substances.
- the new material is particularly adapted for use for bandages, since it has excellent stretching qualities in the direction of its length, without corresponding contraction in width.
- Bandages according to this invention can be woven either to the width re quired for use, or they may be cut from a wider fabric.
- a self elastic rubberless Woven fabric comprising alternate warp threads tightly twisted in the same direction and intermediate warp threads tightly twisted in the opposite direction, and having suitably spaced openwork, each row of openwork being bounded on each side by a selvage formed by cross weaving the two edge threads.

ELASTIC MATERIAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
Application filed December 19, 1911. Serial No. 666,765.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILIIEmL JULIUS T sUrEL, subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Stuttgart, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elastic Material, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a so-called selfelastic material that is to say to a material which is woven without the use of rubber threads in such manner that it shall be very extensible, which material owing to its special method of weaving is particularly useful for various purposes, for instance, for underwear, ladies blouses, band ages or the like.
The invention consists chiefly in the material being woven. in a well known manner with perforations, or open Work rows, which can be arranged in accordance with any desired pattern, and in one of the two twisted selvage threads arrangedon each side of the perforation, being twisted to the right, while the other one is twisted to the left the two threads on each side of the openwork being cross woven as clearly shown in the drawing. This method can be used both in plain and in crape or the like self elastic substances.
The new material is particularly adapted for use for bandages, since it has excellent stretching qualities in the direction of its length, without corresponding contraction in width. Bandages according to this invention can be woven either to the width re quired for use, or they may be cut from a wider fabric.
I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A self elastic rubberless Woven fabric comprising alternate warp threads tightly twisted in the same direction and intermediate warp threads tightly twisted in the opposite direction, and having suitably spaced openwork, each row of openwork being bounded on each side by a selvage formed by cross weaving the two edge threads.
In testimony whereof, I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILHELM JULIUS TEUFEL.
