STRENGTHENING DEVICE FOR RAOKETS.

Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 is the handle of my device having a head 2 at one end thereof. In practice the head 2 is formed of a continuousstrip of material, the ends of said strip being extended and forming part of the handle.
In practice the head 2,'being formed from a single strip of material, is often broken. In order to strengthen the head I take a strip 3 of material, preferably of about onesixteenth of an inch in thickness, and the width of the head, and wind said strip upon a form of shape similar to the shape of the head. In the drawing I have shown a istr'engthening member formed by winding strip 3 four complete times around a form. The ends of the strip are preferably arranged at the.end of the racket adjacent the handle, the opposite ends of said strip ,of material of the same width being correspondingly tapered and oppositely disposed so that the thickness of the completed strengthening member will be the same throughout its length. \Vhen forming the strengthening member the over lapped portions thereof are glued so that when the strengthening member has been formed it will have the appearance of a single strip of material. It is a well known fact that a strengthening device formed from a. thin strip of material wrapped several times, will be stronger than a strengthening device formed from a single stri) as the device formed from the plurality of wrappings.
Vixen the strengthening member has been formed as above described it is removed from the term and the surplus glue scraped therefrom and the device secured in any desired manner inside the head of the racket. The head, handle and strengthening device are then scraped and varnish ed or finished in any other desired manner and the head is then strung. as indicated at By my invention I am enabled to secure a racket of great strength and which may be made of the same weight and balance as the racket usually used.
\Vhile I have shown the preferred form of my iIH'tlltiOil, I desire it to be understood that I may make certain modifications therein without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
\Vhat I claim as new is:
l. A strengthening devicefor rackets, etc.,
comprising a strip of material having a pinrality of turns in the form of said racket, said strengthening device adapted to be secured inside the head of a racket, the ends of saidstrip of material being correspondingly tapered and oppositely disposed. 2. The combination with a racket having a head and a handle; of a strengthening device for the head of said racket comprising a single strip of material wrapped a plurality of times in the form of said head, said strengthening device being positioned in said head.
3.
