Specification 01 Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
Application flied February 15, 1912. Serial No. 677,710.
To all whom it may concern; I
Be it known that I, TRAUGOI'I Gonna, a subject of the Prince of Reuss, Younger Line, residin at Passaic, in'the county of Passaic and gtate of New Jersey, haveinvented a new and Improved Hinged Vehicle-Hood, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a vehicle hood of novel construction for automobiles and othervehicles, which is adapted to sustain the foldable top in a firm and reliable manner.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side view of a vehicle hood embodying my invention, showing it open, and Fig. 2 a similar view showing the hood folded.
The hood comprises a pair of rear bows 1 and2 which are hinged to the carriage body at 3. To the foremost bow 2 there is hinged at 4, the rear end of a forwardly extending arm 5, to the front end of which is connected by stop hinge 6 an outrigger bow 7.
.A diagonal brace 8 is hinged to bow 2 at a distance above pivot L as at 9, and to outrigger bow 7 at a distance in advance of pivot 6, as at 10, so that in this way the outrigger bow is firmly supported. To arm 5 there is further hinged at 11, the lower end of an inclined intermediate how 12, which flanks brace8 and is entirely disconnected therefrom, s0 that the brace and bow may freely swing in opposite directions when the device is folded or unfolded. This freedon.
of movement is essential for the reason that the brace and bow are inclined in op osite directions and intersect each other, so t at in folding the hood, the front of the brace will swing downward while the front of the bow will swing upward.
To rear bows 1, 2 there are pivoted at 13, 14 a pair of auxiliary rear bows 15, 16, which are adapted to assume a vertical position intermediate bows 1 and 2 when the device is opened. These auxiliary bows l5, 16 as well as all the other bows, 1, 2, 7, 12 are of course connected to the foldable top.
It will be seen that my improved vehicle hood is simple in construction, readily foldable and that it is well adapted to efficiently "support the top.
I claim:
A vehicle hood comprising a rear bow, a forwa dly extending arm pivoted thereto, an -'ontrigger bow pivoted to the arm, a downwardly inclined diagonal brace connecting the rear bow at a distance above the arm to the outrigger bow, and an intermediate upwardly inclined bow pivoted to the arm, said intermediate bow crossing the diagoniil brace and being disconnected therefrom, whereby said how and brace are foldable in opposite directions.
TRAUGOTT GOLDE.
