Description

T. GOLDE.
VEHICLE HOOD.
APPLIOATION FILED AUG. 3, 1911.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TRAUGOTT GOLDE, OF GERA, GERMANY.
' VEHICLE-HOOD.
Application filed August 3, 1911. Serial No. 642,120.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TRAUGO'I'I Gown, a subject of the Prince of Reuss, Younger Line, residing at Gera, Reuss, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Vehicle- Hood, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to a foldable hood for automobiles and other vehicles which is firmly braced fro-m end to end in a superior manner, so that it is not liable to vibrate during travel or by wind-action.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a vehicle hood embodying my invention showing it open, and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it folded.
To the back of the car body are pivoted a pair of rear bows 0 and b turning on a common center a and adapted to diverge from the bottom toward the top when unfolded. To r'earmost bow 0 there is pivoted at 0 the rear member d of an articulated brace, the front member 6 of which is pivoted to the foremost bow b at b, the pivots 0' I) being equidistant from pivot a. The joint of the articulated brace is formed intermediate bows 0, b and is equidistant from pivots 0 b. Intermediate bows o, b there is interposed a third bow w which is connected to bows 0, b by toggles 1). Front brace member 6 extends a distance beyond bow b and to its forward end there is pivoted at f the rear end of a link f to the forward end of which the outrigger bow w Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 6, 1912.
is pivoted at as. A foldable arm y pivoted to the link f at f extends downwardly and rearwardly to bow b to which it ispivoted at y. To link f is further pivoted at z a supplemental bow 2 so as to be located intermediate the outrigger how a: and arm g. It will be seen that arm y efiiciently braces the link f whi h supports the outrigger bow as well as the supplemental bow. During the folding operation of the top, joint f will break upwardly, while joint 41: will break downwardly, which movement will be readily followed by arm 3 so that the parts will become tightly packed against each other.
I claim:
A vehicle hood comprising a pair of rear bows, an articulated brace pivoted to said bows and having a joint intermediate the bows, 'the brace member extending a distance in front of the foremost bow, a link pivoted to the projecting end of said brace member, an arm extending downwardly from the link and pivoted to said link and to the foremost bow, an outrigger bow pivoted to the forward end of the link, and a supplemental bow pivoted to the link intermediate the outrigger bow and the arm.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
TRAUGOTT GOLDE.
