To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY GREY, a e itizen of the United States, residing at New Yorkcity, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Rolling Flanged Metal Beams or Bars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a. process of r0lling flanged shapes or sections, such, for instance, as metal I-bcarns and bars having a web between flanges,

and bearing Serial Number 125,316, I claim the process of rolling flanged shapes or sections comprising the provision of a special blank in which the mean thickness of each; flangeportion and the thickness of theweb-l portion are in the proportion in which the said thicknesses exist in the finished productto which the blank is to be reduced, and during'the reduction of the blank reducing the said thicknesses in the said proportion.
in the present application I disclose and claim a process of rolling flanged shapes or sections consisting in. a proportionate reduction'ot" the Web-portion and fiangsportio'ns of the blank in area of cross-section by rolling pressures on the sides of the said blankportions and on the edges of the flange-portions, and in providing a special blank in which the area of cross-section of. the web-portion and the area of cross-section of each flange-portion are in the proportion in which the cross-sectional areas of the said portions are to exist in the finished product to which the said blank is to be reduced, and substantially maintaining the said proportion in the cross-sectional areas of the said portions of the blank during the reduction of the blank.
