STOVE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1912.
Application filed-March 21, 1911. Serial No. 616,012.
T 0 al whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARsINE Baoorm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stove Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to fire backs, and more particularly to the class of fire linings frir the fire boxes of stoves, furnaces, or the li re.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a fire back, in which the fire clay or other fire-proof substance will be partially covered, so as to prevent the crumbling thereof, or the breaking away of the same while in position for lining the fire box of a stove, furnace or the like.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a fire back, in whichthe refractory material will be reinforced, so as to increase the life thereof when in use within the fire box of a stove, furnace or the like.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a fire back which is simple of construction, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and
pointed out in the claim hereunto appended. In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a fire brick having part of the brick broken away and constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof with a brick partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. l is a sectional view on the line 44.- of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, the fire back comprises an iron frame 5 having a lattice center 6, the lattice portion of which is composed of spaced parallel longitudinal bars 7 and spaced parallel bars 8, the same being of triangular-shape in cross section throughout their length, presenting front flat faces 9, the frame being provided withforwardly. converging flanges '10 extending beyond the flat faces 9 of the bars 7 and 8, while the inner edges of the frame are inwardly beveled, as at 11.
Mounted within the frame is a fire brick 12, the same being formed of refractory material, and has its marginal edges rabbeted, as at 13, to provide a seat receiving the flanges 10 of the frame, while at the rear face of the brick 12 are formed rearwardly projecting squares or protuberances 141, which latter have their marginal edges correspondingly shaped to the side faces of the bars 7 and 8, the refractory material being set in soft state in the iron frame, so that when it becomes hardened, the brick will be anchored therein, thereby affording a unitary structure. In this manner, the fire back will be prevented from fracture, and also warping, the frame reinforcing the same, so as to increase the life thereof, when positioned within the fire box of a stove, furnace or the like.
WVhat is claimed is:
A fire back, comprising a cast frame having a lattice-like center, the lattice-like center being composed of spaced longitudinal and transverse bars, each bar being of triangular shape in cross-section throughout its length, forwardly converging flanges formed at the marginal edge of the frame, a brick mounted within the frame and having its marginal edges rabbeted providing a seat for receiving the said flanges, the brick being provided at .its rear face with rearwardly projecting protuberances. having their marginal edges correspondingly shaped to the side faces of the said bars, and said brick comprising refractory material the same being set in soft state in the frame, and anchored therein, thereby affording a unitary structure when it becomes hardened.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
