To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR O. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Golley, in the county of Sullivan and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw Handles, of which the following is a specification.
This'invention relates to certain improvements in saw handles, more particularly to handles of cross out saws, the object of the invention being to provide a handle with recesses in which are adapted to be arranged an oil can and a swab for oiling the saw.
A further object of the invention is to provide a handle of the ordinary construction having a recess formed in each end. In the upper recess of which is arranged an oil can which can be easily and quickly placed in position or detached when desired. The lower recess being provided with a plug for closing the same carrying a swab.
WVith these objects in view my invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

In carrying out my improved invention I employ an ordinary wooden handle A which is secured in the connecting member B in the ordinary manner to which is connected a saw blade C. The handle is formed with longitudinal bores at each end of diiferent sizes forming recesses. In the upper or larger recess is arranged an oil can D having an external threaded portion D over which is adapted to be screwed an internally threaded neck E on a mill cap E for closing the can. The recess being enlarged as clearly shown so as to see the neck portion of the cap and it will be seen by this arrangement the can can be easily and quickly placed within the recess or detached as desired. Arranged within the lower recess is a plug F adapted to close the recess and be held therein by friction contact therewith. The plug being provided with a rod F having a swab F arranged on the end adapted to be forced in the oil can so as to allow the swab to absorb the oil so that it can be readily placed on the saw blade when desired. It will be seen that by this arrange ment the user of the saw will have oil on hand at all times so that the saw blade can be easily and quickly oiled.
When it is desired to oil the saw the cap is removed from the oil can and the plug carrying the swab removed from the recess and forced in the oil can so as to fill the same with oil. It is then rubbed upon the saw blade and it will be seen that by this arrangement the saw blade can be thoroughly oiled without wasting the same thereby saving a great deal of oil.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a cross cut saw handle with recesses adapted to receive an oil can and a swab so arranged that they are not in the way in operation in any way and at the same time the handle is not weakened to any extent. It will also be seen that my improved oil can and swab can be readily attached to the ordinary saw handle now in use by simply forming the recesses in each end of the handle.
What I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a handle for saws comprising a connecting member having means for securing the same on one end of a saw at one end and a collar at its other end, a handle proper formed of a circular bar having a reduced lower end arranged within the collar of said connecting member, said handle having bores of diiferent sizes in its upper and lower ends, a tubular oil can arranged within the bore of the upper end of said handle having a threaded upper end, a cap provided with a threaded neck portion mounted on the upper end of said can and extending over the upper end of said handle and a plug having a rounded knob arranged in the bore at the lower end of the handle, said plug having a rod secured therein provided with a swab at its free end.
