To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARY I BEEOHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bristol, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Book-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

Ihe invention has for its general object to support a book or magazine in open position and at any angle required by the reader.

Other objects will appear and be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,

In the embodiment shown this element is in the form of a skeleton frame formed of wire and provided at one end with a ledge 5 to which is connected a guard 6. The ledge and guard cooperate to hold the book against sliding off the support and prevent the turning of the leaves thereof, when the book is open.

Any preferred means may be em ployed for connecting the foot to the brace such as by providing the foot with a proj ection 9 so bent to form an eye or opening to receive a clamp screw 10 which passes through an apertured lug 11 having its upper end bent to support the terminal ends of the braces 8 and a spring arm, the screw being tightened by a thumb-nut.

7 Owing to the adjustability of the foot the support may be arranged so as to support the book at any desired angle to the reader and in addition the foot may be folded on to the back support, to enable the device to occupy a minimum of space when not in use.

WVhen the back support is formed of wire as shown, I preferably, though not necessarily, employ cross braces 18 to further strengthen the frame.

From the foregoing it will be manifest that a book will be held against accidental closing when the clamp aw and guard bear on the open pages of the book.

It will be further observed that the leaves may be turned with a minimum of effort when the clamp jaw is raised from engagement therewith.

Although I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I am not to be limited to the specific arrangement and description of parts since various changes may be made, within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

What I claim as new is:
